Yep! Johannes Vermeer.
SteveM, Comment for image # 535318 Dec 07 13:48
Vermeer the painter?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 535318 Dec 07 13:18
Vermeer would be proud!

I primed it with gray then covered the whole area with a light yellow-brown (I was aiming for honey color). Then I brushed on one layer of a medium brown, allowing it to cover the light yellow-brown in some areas and not covering it in other areas. For this part I brushed with the narrow side of a flat brush so I would get thin lines of paint but could flip to the wide side to blur/blend as needed. The last color was Raw Umber straight from the tube to add some of the darker areas and the panel lines. I got carried away with the panel lines near the nose and needed to remove one, which it why there is a light colored blur between the first two panel lines.

How did you go about painting the wood grain?
Barnstormer, Comment for image # 535318 Dec 07 05:15
Looking great Steve, you really did a beautiful job all the way around. The wood grain just really sets this one off. Excellant job, and scratch built too!!

Upper wing attached. Prop and nose cone just need some paint.

This guide helped too, the plans only gave me steps 1 and 2. I don't remember where I found it.

Great presentation, thanks, it's much apreciated.

Flying prop per Earl Stahl plans. I won't fly this plane so I need to turn it into a scale prop or make a new one.

Progression of the transformation from block to prop.

Carving a prop makes a lot of shavings!

Very, very nice wood look. Actually looks weathered which is an art in itself to do on a model.

I'm just trying to catch up to you guys. Part of that is learning to spend the extra time on details like this that add so much to the look of the plane. Some day I'll spend 14 hours filling and sanding 1/2 of the frame of a fuselage. ;-)
David Duckett, Comment for image # 529413 Dec 07 07:55
And he can paint, too!

Imagination, research and craftsmanship. That's what it's all about and you have them all in abundance. Beautiful!!

Very nice work.... I love the detail.

If you lean back and squint you'll see a Mercedes D.IIIaü nestled between a pair of Maschinengewehr 08 machine guns.
