Horizontal stabs formed. Added .015" thk Bass veneer between layers. Resiliency increased quite dramatically (Really springy). Remade rudder similarly. Both surfaces are "Full Flying", as was the real thing. |

Hey James. Pat seems to like this type of forming. And you know, I believe I am a convert as well. It's very clean, simple, light, and quick (and well, darned pretty). I think I'll be using this method wherever applicable. I'm going to explore this further with combining different woods and other material sandwiches to add a little more strength without too much added weight before the Dragon Rapide build. |

I did the same thing on the tail surfaces and wing tips of my Tritle Tiger Moth too. I prefer the wooden former you used, over the foam one I made. |

The microwave thing I believe I saw Pat Trittle doing on his "Brown B-2 Miss Los Angeles" build at RC Groups. I've had that particular kit on order now (the B-2) for...let's just say...quite a while. But hey, patience is a virtue. |

Slick technique |

Before removing I used "Thin" CA along the seam to bond the two laminations. Got about 1/8" "Spring-back" OA between start and end point. |

Put the whole "Kit and Kaboodle" back in the Microwave for another 15 to 30 secs. |

After wrapping I used a wedge clamp to lock it in place. It also aided in pulling the balsa hoop tight around the former. |

Formed rudder hoop. 2ea 1/32" x 1/16" balsa strips saoked in water 'bout 10 min, microwave for no more than 10 secs. (they will dry out). 1/16" Bass form over Parchment. Tapered press-fit starter notch. Pull tension while wrapping both sticks around form. |

Glad I added a 1/16 Bass strip to the trailing edge. Got pretty thin there after shaping! |

Achieved the underchamber I was after. |

Wing framed. Added sub-ribs for added profile consistancy and strength (and weight, I guess, but, oh well!). |

Steam Forming tips to match nrw camber. A bit "Overkill" but hey, balsa becomes "Al Dante"(?) in about 40 sec. |
