I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Tony...Thanks, how is your Rat progressing? Just ordered reference books for the Dauntless from Amazon.

Thanks for the great input. After repairing the transmission on my JD Gator, the purchase of another kit is in the future. I have had to repair gears and shift modeling gears for a bit. Popeye, probably a Guillows kit will have to wait. I have two kits in stock. The Dumas Dragon and a Guillows Dauntless. I am in the war bird state of mind so the Dauntless gets the nod. I acquired this kit from DD a while back. It was a part of an exchange program. I think she needs to be built. Popeye waits, the Dragon waits as I have been bitten by the Dauntless.

Dumas makes one too, laser cut and designed to be light for flying. Comet also made one that can still be found on eBay from time to time. If making a P-38 for static display I'd go with the Guillow's and grab it from eBay since they can be quite inexpensive there (eg. $20-30 + s/h).

I built the Molt P-38. It's a great flyer, and for that, has a few concessions to true scale (enlarged tail surfaces, I think). 36" wing span. http://www.moltmodels.com/prod_p-38_main.html.

Very cool, John, another great looking result. To think there is a nicely detailed Merlin under all that Al, complete with a RR logo on it. :)

Thanks guys. I was really lost W/O a plan to use to scale and manufacture details. I worked from a 3 view and used dividers to get dimensions. This is a flight model advertised as easy to build and get into the air. It is that. Poppy, anybody, who makes a P-38 besides Guillows??? I think I will make Popeye next.

I would say even with all the problems you mentioned, a fine looking model emerged. A real beauty!

The kit has no plan. You build the plane in the air, so to speak. The instructions are skimpy. The fuse had no stingers etc. formers and sheets of balsa. It was advertised as 1/12 scale and it is not. If I did it again I would have tried another. That is in the past now.

What is the worst part of it to do that made it very tough?
