I traced the aileron outline onto stiff paper and used a soft pencil to outline the basic shape. |

Another view of the neighborhood, looking north. The jagged mountain is Picacho Peak, the remnants of an ancient volcano. Interstate 10 passes between the two mountains. There's an ostrich farm there. Really! |

It's the rear window of something old, I don't remember what kind. This is exactly the type of painting I do on planes. The difference is I have to "scratch" everything and this was painted from a photograph I took, as was the other painting. I have learned, painfully, that there's another major difference: Trying to add too much detail to a painting ruins it. As with people, a little mystery makes it more interesting. |

Looks like the rear window of an old VW. |

I love the look of your paintings, David. Sort of like David Hockney. Realistic, yet abstract. |

No, this was strictly for training the navigators and ECM types who were stationed at Mather AFB, Sacramento. They came over and flew T-29s, slowly, up and down the coast and we would lock on and time their reaction times. Boring... but a stunningly beautiful place. |

Was this an early warning radar? The LA Air Defense had an early warning radar on Santa Rosa Island. Our Nike Site had A HiPower radar that reached pretty far. |

What is the relevance of this? Use google maps, or equivalent, and enter Point Cabrillo Light,Mendocino, CA. This is the parking lot for a radar site that used to sit at the end of the small road which points south and branches off from the light house road. I was stationed there from 1970 until the site was closed and dismantled in 1974. The parking lot was made of PSP, perforated steel planking, the same stuff used for runways on the islands in the Pacific as the war got closer to Japan. |

Mary wasn't great to look at also but she did have certain talents that at the time I appreciated. |

Looking closly at her I think her name is Mary and she was my HS prom date in 63. Back then I could not appreciate how good looking she was. |
