Raushenberg is an unknown but Hopper is a big favorite:-)

Seeing the actual paintings can change a person's perspective as well. I was indifferent to Jackson Pollack's work until I rounded the corner of a gallery space and saw one of his paintings from the edge first. From photos I never realized how dimensional his paintings could be. It added a whole new level (no pun intended) to his work, something I really fell into. Still, I'm most partial to Robert Raushenberg and Ed Hopper.

For me, it's simple. I either like it or not. I don't "see" anything in it except the sheer pleasure of being able to wander around in such glorious color and that's sublime.

These are just to give an idea of how size and color affect what one sees. The BF-109 is just the opposite; small, precise, and painted with black and white paint. In my world, there's plenty of room for both.

It's funny, I don't have an immediate like to his previous painting, but I am attracted to this one. I would love to it full sized. Kurt Vonnegut does an excellent explanation of modern abstract art and the sometimes anger it causes in people in his book "Breakfast of Champions."

Interesting juxtaposition to go from an ME-109 to a Mark Rothko. The kid in this photo really adds to the composition, with the color of his shirt.

I'm not sure why people think they have to "see" something in a painting. Guernica is painted in an abstract style but I do not think there's any doubt about what it represents. If all else fails, check the title. "The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance." Aristotle

The point is every one sees it different!I see a room with lots of different animal beast and pepole dieing with a gragon getting his teeth knock out by a god with hair holding a candal.Others will see something totaly different.Think its called absract painting.

It was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, a Basque Country village in northern Spain, by German and Italian warplanes at the behest of the Spanish Nationalist forces on 26 April 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. This is actually the only Picasso I am familiar with. After reading Michener's "Iberia" I had to do some studying...

Until you see it "in the flesh", you have no idea of the painting's impact. It is so large. The first time I went to the Chicago Art Institute I saw the originals of so many paintings I thought I was familiar with from books. "Sunday Afternoon at the Park" by Seurat just overwhelms you by its size. Good art can truly effect you. If any of you have the chance, go to the Art Institute. And then the Museum of Science and Technology and check out the U-505.

Kinda reminds me of your work 'Incident at Phou Pha Thi', except that you used color and text and Picasso used figures in shades of black and white. Al

I think there's more than enough of these in camo, already, and I wanted a scheme which allows the plane's shape to be seen.

Northern Spain is gorgeous! Yes, the two are similar, and thank you!

Beautiful country. Is plainsong similar to Gregorian Chants? And Happy Birthday, belated, of course.

Interesting choice for a color scheme.
