I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Adam Savage (of Mythbusters fame) has a channel on youtube called Adam Savage's Tested where he does a lot of "one day builds" of things like costumes, props, etc., and he uses a pen refill in an airbrush to apply chrome effects. I think the refills are for this make of pen, but not sure. He starts off with a gloss black undercoat, then applies the chrome on top. Get's amazing effects. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtGMBOqs0us

Experiment with Liquid Chrome paint pen. I’m pretty impressed with it, works great if you need some chrome details like landing gear, antenna, or in my case – polished aluminum components. Beats the heck out of trying to use HVAC tape around nightmare compound corners… it kind of feels like cheating though. Same for 3D printed parts - I have much respect for those whom build details from the balsa – hats off to you for sure. But... if you have the means : )

3rd times a charm. At least one of the failed attempts left me with a good spinner for a P40.... now I have to build a P40. 3D printing ( like all technology ) is nice - when it works...

Amazing - I think the "rivets" look great.

I deal with these questions all the time..how far do I want to go on any one project. How much time do I want to commit? This is what often leads to long stalls for me - I can't decide, spend too much time thinking about it rather than doing, and lose momentum. If I were to offer advice I would say you have captured the look of Precious Metal utterly, and have a good start on adding this detail. I would continue if it were me. You'll probably end up with something that should be preserved under glass and placed where aviation enthusiasts can appreciate it every day. But it's your project and your decision.

%That is really sharp.

started the rivet detail, although not sure if it's worth it. Step back a foot or two and it all disappears.

panel lines cut into the sheeting with the back side of a no. 11 razor, 2-3 passes gets it about half depth of the 32nd sheeting

I love that aluminum look! I'm thinking of designing plans for a CAC CA-15 Kangaroo (Australian fighter prototype) that would be ideal for this finish. I'm thinking that is model three in the queue.

Jgood, I've always wanted to go to the Reno races! it's on my bucket list for sure.. I was checking out your aircraft and you almost had me convinced to turn this thing into an RC. It came ' this ' close... I have the guts from an old foamy that would drop right in. To heavy now though with paint etc. Maybe the next one.
