Doing great DD. Lot of guitar playing with my son and no time to build so all you on the VA, keep'em coming. My comment re: "clarity" was to the actual clear in the canopy not of your photo. Checked my stash and almost all of them did not look as poor as this one. Maybe you can orchestrate the holes as being enemy fire from a Mess or Zero.

These dimples are also on my Corsair but since they're down in the painted part, I never paid much attention to them. I don't see any on the Stuka or P-40. I guess I just never saw any in the part that's supposed to be clear, glass, before and considering it's a canopy, I don't understand why they're there and not in the part that isn't clear since the function would be the same as on the Corsair's canopy and location apparently doesn't matter.

My P-51 canopy has dimples in these exact locations so I don't think it is a defect per se and must be part of the mold. It is a shame because I've not seen it in other Guillows kits either.

I thought about that but it has much different fuselages than the P-51.

How about I send the built fuselage of another one, and you make the double body version F-82......

Bill, this one's better. ;-)

Four days worth...It's now ready for the first of two applications of filler. This kit came on the market in 1961 and I'm sure Guillows has sold a ton or two of them. I built one in 1969 and left it covered but unpainted. This kit has a few problems. Some of the formers are very poorly cut relative to the proper outline so make sure they are checked on the plan before being used. It's never made sense to have an instrument panel at the angle built per plans since that would cause incredible glare so I've added wood to bring it perpendicular. (This occurs in several Guillows kits) I don't normally comment on the wood since it's all covered but this kit has a couple of sheets that look almost like raw walnut and are substantially harder than the other wood. Fortunately all die cutting is acceptable. I had planned to use 3/32" stringers instead of the called for 1/16" ones and that was made much easier because most of the notches in the formers needed very little work to accept the larger wood. Thta's good for me but not for anyone who wants to use the smaller wood and even the plans show a larger notch. It's taken four days to get it this far and none of the aforemwntioned problems matter once the shape of the plane emerges. Beautiful lines!

A better view. Doing fine, Moostang, and you?

Never mind the hole, the "clarity" of the canopy sucks. BTW, how you doin' DD. Enjoying your wonderful builds as always.

I don't thiink this is a "relief hole", just a plain hole.
David Duckett, Image # 1836122 Jun 10 12:54

I hope you can see the holes in this. There are two just like it on the other side plus another one at the rear. I complained to Guillows and was told these are relief vents and that other wise the canopy would not mold. I think that's BS. I've been building these kits for more than 50 years and I don't remember seeing this. In fact, for years the canopies from Guillows were right up there with their decals but this is clearly not the case these days. If relief holes are needed, why put them where the paint line is? The quality and clarity is not up to par, either. I wonder if any of you have had the same problems with canopies? And Bill, will you please post this pic on the Guillows forum for me? Thanks.
