What the heck happened! painted the wings at the same time within seconds of each other. Dried at the same time in the same place, why would it do that to one wing and nowhere else? For that matter, I've painted blue all over the thing and none of this happened... white paint is krylon, navy is rustoleum. enamels and lacquers? I have no idea. Very disgusted, I'll try to finish it, but I almost threw the whole thing away. Just don't want it to happen again on future projects.

Looks nice.

first round of star burst painted. getting lots of bleed through, so i have some clean up work ahead of me for sure.

covered and painted, getting close. I leared a lot of things, or at least what not to do. Makes me appreciated all the work i've seen on this and other websites. There are some true craftsman out there.

Civilians have required an escort on military bases since 9/11. These days if you are a passenger in a car driven by a military member you do not have to sign in.

Naval air museum , severely disappointed. Is anyone in the Pensacola area and a veteran or active duty? They're not allowing civilians... unless escorted. Maybe covid restrictions? Anyway, I would gladly buy someone a good lunch if they wanted to visit at the museum for a few hours.

Correct, aluminum foil tape for hvac. Only covering panels as the full size. If doing again, I'd use sheeting then the tape.

Looking good. I have the same question, but is that just what was aluminum covered?
bsadonkill, Comment for image # 4330717 Jul 21 13:37
Is that aluminum foil? Are you going to cover the whole model that way? I like the job you did on the rivet patterns, nice detail!

covered with two coats of krylon clear. There may or may not be a few bays missing in the wings... She's now a clipped-wing.

Incredible!

Thanks for the info. I use Blender a lot for modeling. Been using it for almost 20 years now, so I'm pretty comfortable with it. Have not used Hardops / boxcutter but will look into it. I also us ZBrush for organic modeling (seat cushons, etc). I do hard surface modeling in ZBrush also, but I often find blender an easier too to use.

I'm with heywooood on the larger size gives more room for detail. I've always loved that! Once you feel comfortable with building kits, you may want to think about scratch building. There is a great site called outerzone.co.uk that has thousands of old plans, either ones published in magazines, or kits that are no longer being produced and are not copyright protected. They usually post two new models a day. Some very obscure aircraft out there if that is what you are looking for. Lots of different choices for common aircraft too.

oh that looks good!
heywooood, Comment for image # 4328206 Jul 21 22:45
that's what makes these kits so appealing to me as well - and the detailing you can do with all the extra room in these larger 1/24, 1/18, 1/16th scale models as well

That's cool. Now if I were computer literate...

Hi edtherenderman, layer height is set at .05mm with res set at 1140x2560 The resin is just Elegoo standard grey ' ELEGOO 3D Printer Resin LCD UV-Curing Resin 405nm Standard Photopolymer Resin for LCD 3D Printing Grey 1000g ' The gear was modeled in Autocad, tailwheel and prop assembly are all with Blender. Do you have Hardops / boxcutter? highly recommend it!

Nice Detail! What resolution and type of resin are you using?

Thanks for the comments! I've scoured the internet for this and was (am) so impressed by everyone's work here that I had to give it a go for myself. Inspiration for sure! I have a long list of my favorite aircraft that just aren't available in plastic kits and can't wait to start on them. Clipped wing T-craft, Champ, Pacer, Luscomb, Stinson, J4 and J5 cubs - all of the classic tail draggers you see around airports.
