No matter what scale a F-4 is in, it always looks big!

Gents, I used to be a IPMS member (the plastic folks) and was a judge on Regional level. I found that the culture was just to acrimonious to continue, but I digress. What the plastic folks are attempting to replicate with the lightning of the colors is not so much the fade due to weathering, but the perception of colors when viewed from a "scale" distance perspective. In other words, if you have a 1/72 scale model, the color(s) would be representative of what the real plane would look like from 72 feet away. Of course sun angles, artificial lighting, and other atmospheric conditions would skew a person's perception of the colors. In other words, if it looks right to you, go for it. BTW: I saw a white & gold dress.

It's probably for "Federal Standard" but I'm guessing. One of the first things you learn in the military is that everything, everything, has a FSN, Federal Stock Number, and nomenclature, name, and if you get either wrong you won't get what you're looking for. Same with paint colors. You can't say combat boots, you say Boots, combat, men's, black. Some military folks, much as some police, get eat up with the language. I had a supervisor once who always said "utilize" for use. Looked very much like a pig, he did:-)

what does fs stand for?
BillParker, Comment for image # 3333505 Mar 15 10:15
There has been some discussion in the plastic model world, regarding actual FS colors and that they're too dark when used on a small model, but fine on big models. (If I'm remotely making myself clear...) Some guys are now mixing somewhat lighter colored versions, much as Mr. Duckett does. My experience is that after I've done my best airbrush job on a 1:48 plane, it just looks black on the ceiling... That color website also showed me that aparently, Testor's ain't the only FS paint source in the world.
