O.K. I'm a dummy. I can't add proper kit to my list for some reason. Anyway, covering started. Measure and cut peice for one side, then test fit to other and cut another peice. cover each side concurrently to prevent fuselage warp.

Looks like a nice clean, square frame build. Am definitely going to follow your builds as the 1/32" balsa covering looks great when finished. Keep updating. Thanks.

I also did not end tips so could use balsa block. This will require some balsa filler and sanding because stringers show where compressed against balsa sheet.

Standard build. Will cover with 1/32 balsa sheet. This one started 14 yrs. ago. Guess it's time to finish. Stab and fin 1/4" balsa sanded to shape. Rudder and elevators build up with 1/16" sheet basswood and ribs added to both sides covered with silkspan. Cowling has a little "stretch" but will have to notch 1/32 sheet covering to compensate for plastic thickness by sanding just from front former to about 1/8" width, and depth of plastic cowl.

This wing I sanded leading edge then covered top and overlapped leading edge. Not a good idea. School of H.K. Requires too much sanding and fill weakening leading edge. Extra "ribs" added to flaps and ailerons to replicate full scale.

Thanks David for the great offer. I will contact James. I will share build details on builds as soon as I can compose in a concise manner. As mentioned earlier, I do not take many build pics. But I will be happy to share details. All kits are a bit different but my basics are same. Study plans carefully. Modify them as needed, and then adjust during build if necessary. It usually takes me 4-6 months to complete. But I have lots of patience and can only spend 3-4 hrs. building at a time B4 hands give out. And it may be 1-2 wks. B4 starting again.

Great idea and also very generous of you David. If we could get Poppy to reveal some of his secrets much like you have, I'm sure that all of us would be appreciative.

Roger that! Poppy, I wonder if you would be interested in a Scalemaster kit of a 47" wingspan Stuka for control line with all the balsa in the world and only one piece has been cut out. It is a builder's kit and far more than I care to tackle. It would, perhaps, be right at home with you. This is not an offer to sell, this is an offer to give it to you because you are certainly qualified to build it and I really don't think I will. If you want it, ask James to PLEASE send me your address so details can be worked out.

I'm liking it! When you sheet over the frame do you reduce height of ribs to account for the extra thickness of the sheet balsa?

Like the sheeted balsa idea. Am going to try it on a T-28 Trojan after the B-24 build. Maybe a little tutorage from Poppy as far as panel line detailing installation and such, as your completed models in your hangar are showcase material.

Looking very good so far!

Extra ribs cut to replicate full scale F4U-1D. 1/32 sheet balsa for covering.

This is a Guillows series 1000 F4U-4.
