Wonderful!

Thanks. I have been serious about photography for over fifty years.

I think your photographs are easily as good as your models, from beginning of the build to the end. You have an eye for composition. Sincerely, an artists eye

I am always conflicted about this. You hope that the person who receives them will take care and appreciate them as much as you do - which to me always seems unlikely. I am sure though John, that if you thought enough of someone to gift them this model - that person is taking care.

I agree that it was likely the fuel cap that caused the crash..and I omitted the fuel cap from my model for that reason. I think Lowell was likely intent on the airspeed gauge when the cap struck the canopy causing a flinch on the control stick or sudden rudder movement that was too much for the air frame..probably the stick as the aileron departed, then the right wing twisted and fractured as the Z rotated right and struck the ground.

Heywood, The color photo before Lowell Bayles’ spirit arrived on set for his photo shoot !

Heywood, Lowell Bayles also thanks you. He should have checked the fuel cap!

Heywood. Thank you kind sir. I wish I did not gift this plane away.

I just love this airplane..your effort here was my inspiration to build the Dumas kit.

these Dumas air racers really are built like furniture..lol I laughed when I read that. It's true

they turned out very nicely - I thought about cutting up a soda can but couldn't figure out how I would create the proper vent openings in it without making a mess or losing a finger

Thin Al sheets and a pair of small curved nail clippers, I think. It has been a while!
heywooood, Comment for image # 933311 Jul 18 16:08
I like those too - and you did a good job on the vents.. I didn't even try. How did you replicate that?

Heywood when I constructed my rendition I used cardboard for the wing fillets.

The men behind these machines were true pioneers. They risked everything - raw courage. Designers, builders, flyers...heroes

Heywoood. Lowell Bayles likes your build!

The graphics are decals. The paint job and pinstriping free hand. If I could build more this scale I could solve my air space dilemma.

Outstanding work John...this is my favorite Gee Bee, I always loved the color scheme of black and yello. did you hand paint the city of Springfield on the cowl? awesome

WS...Thank you...Planes this size are OK for me as long as the parts are laser cut. Working with a plane this size became a joy. Only 92 hrs to finish her...a record!

Your fingers are more nimble than you think. Building planes this size means you can do more, john. A superb plane with a stunning colour finish. I also struggled with the yellow on my me109. It hasn't turned out as well as i hoped. But we all live and learn by our mistakes.
