I measured the size of the over sized decals and then the area on the plane where it was supposed to fit. A quick divide provides the percent scale. Then I print low quality on plain paper (to save money), cut out a sample image and lay it on the plane. If the fit is not right I make a scale adjustment in my printing settings and try again. Where you actually set the scale for printing depends on your computer's printing system. But generally is it somewhere near the options to select the type of paper and what not. Normally you just leave the scale at 100%.

That' sure a good looking model there, Steve. I'm waiting for decal paper to be shipped. How do you know the right setting on your printer to print your decals the correct size?

Now we have properly sized decals. The stars were more like four times too big, I practiced on plain paper till I was happy with the size. Time to let them dry for a few days then seal with crystal clear.

I just got to looking at the decals next to the plane and realized they are twice as big as I need! More paper and ink go into the bin.

Decals for the F-15I, stars are on white paper the other are on clear. The page on the left streaked a bit as you can barely make out in the middle of the "267" in the lower left corner. There goes $2 in paper and ink, now I know which paper type to use.

I think that two of the best are great teachers and thank them for their willingness to share. From the looks of this bird you're an honor student. Real nice Steve.

Steve...I remember the tedious job making up these fins....great job. Did you use cardboard or balsa??
SteveM, Comment for image # 648024 Feb 08 05:46
Thank you both. It is far from perfect but I am still learning and enjoying trying various covering techniques.

I have finally located decals for the F-15I at rcgroups.com but now need to get some clear decal paper. The missiles should be done tonight, leaving just the decals.

Not only lucky with the weather, this is an incredible shot! This one's going into that special spot, too. Thanks

I guess I got pretty lucky for someone that gets an average of 44" of rain per year.
