I guess you see the areas...my old eyes do not detect them in this photo.

Hail fellow! Well met! It's tough posting right after the stunning P 40 you're sculpting and painting.

Very well said barnstormer. Looks like the fabrication of a design prototype in the making. Excellent craftsmanship DD.
Barnstormer, Comment for image # 678625 Feb 08 19:23
Yes, very nice. I think this one has not only taken an artists touch but a sculptor's hand also.

The primer makes the areas that need attention really show up.

Boy is this one coming along great.

Hobbylite, Micro-Fill, sanding sealer, balsa fillercoat, and spray white primer

Idyllic! ( I think i spelled that right)

It's a balmy 52F here but no sign of flowers yet. Nice to know spring is almost here though, my air cooled engine doesn't like the cold weather.

This is looking nice. A one of a kind build that will certainly enhance your museum!!

Details of mating aluminum to balsa....That would be priceless.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 659614 Feb 08 22:46
I glued a 3/32" balsa disc inside the back of the metal cowling and then glued that to the nacelle. The cowlings are a bit larger than the nacelles and they aren't going to give so I'll be doing some more sanding on the nacelles. The cowlings have a "ridge" in them, as you can see, but I've already added some filler where they attach to the nacelles and I really don't want to take it any further. The wheels were a total surprise! They are just slightly larger than 1-1/8" which is just fine cause many of the wheels in kits are about one inch and notoriously hard to find in anything close to scale. These are not "scale" to this plane but they give the impression of being aircraft wheels and they are easily obtained. And they even have tread, Moostang!!

DD...From whence did the circular orbs originate!
David Duckett, Image # 659814 Feb 08 22:28

The nosewheel is the twin to the one on my B 25. I KNEW I would find a use for it!
David Duckett, Image # 659714 Feb 08 22:26

The metal hubs paint easily and the pen defines the outer rim, making the wheel look more like it belongs on a plane. The 4 wheels were $5.

If it's good enough for the scouts....

Thanks for the kind words about my Dornier, but it is the model I am the least happy with. I did a bad job of papering and finishing. One problem I had was with Testors Dullcoat, I could not get it to Dull to a dead flat over Tamiya acrylic, as it has in the past. I kept gettin a semi-gloss finish. I tried three different cans, one of which I went out and bought that afternoon. Never had this problem before. I hope I can solve it in the finish of the Diels P-40B
David Duckett, Comment for image # 657513 Feb 08 20:50
Perhaps this is the one. I was shocked to see it as a "buy it now" for $50. I love Berkeley kits and remember building at least three of them when I was a teenager, some 50 years ago. I had a part time job in a store that sold models and I usually took my pay in kits. I really like your Dornier and will definitely add it to my hanger, too.

Realy looking good. I was given one of these some 50 years ago, but had no interest in building it at the time. I don't know what happened to it. Sure wish I had it today. Can't wait to see you finish it.
