Did I miss where you said which plane you need the cowl for? If all else fails, if you can carve a mold I could vacuum form it in 0.030" plastic. If that Fokker cowl is only off by a small amount I could try a few tricks to enlarge it slightly. I have a Guillow's D-VIII cowl like yours but 1/16" thick plastic (not vacuum formed) and a finer pitch to the cylinder fins (too fine to be duplicated well with vacuum forming).

The reason I ask is that is the one for a Guillows Fokker D -VIII and I would use that one if it fits. This is 2-1/4" diameter.

Well, you did cut up her baking sheet to make skis.

DD...I have not touched a plane in two days..depressing. Waiting for the Rat plane to arrive. Removed a dishwasher today. The new one arrives on Valentine's day... a present for the "Wuffy!"

DD...This build saves the labor of adding a gazzilion stingers. My "Misty" will never have a face like your "Patches!"

The open spaces on the fin have been filled in with sheet balsa and it's ready for the initial sanding. Much like John O's cat Misty, Patches sleeps through it all.

The wing has been Micro-Filled and awaits sanding.

Berkeley kits were very well done and very complete. I have a Berkeley Privateer "15" kit on my shelf waiting for my retirement. If you are too young to have seen one, it is a very sleek looking R/C amphibian. I'll have to wait have time to re-arrange my garage because, right now, I don't have any place to put a model with a 60 inch wingspan.

Actually the balsa is pretty good. I'm using new wood for sheeting the wing but that's because the kit wood is 1/20" and does not cover the entire surface. Those pre-shaped blocks are very good wood and will easily hold up to the sanding and filling to come.

Original cost $8.00. Paid $50.00. Sure it will end up looking like a gazillion. DD, what was the balsa like, since it is 55-56 years young?

1952... wow a vintage kit, I didn't show up till 11 years after.. .

Hardly scratch, this is a Berkeley kit dated 1952 (I was 11) and it appears the original price may have been $8. I paid $50 for it.
