Coming along nicely David. Have you thought about final colour schemes yet? Will it be lozenge patterned?!

Jerry, I think SIG make both types of dope - I have a tin of each on it's way to me right now.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 663117 Feb 08 20:33
I'm also using SIG, they make both kinds. I get it at the LHS but you can order it from SIG directly. Typing in NITRATE DOPE to your search engine should help find it and explain the differences.

DD what brands are nitrate dope and where do you find it? I use SIG which is Butyrate Dope.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 663117 Feb 08 18:36
Nitrate has much better adhesion and sealing characteristics.

why the nitrate dope, less shrinkage? My Micro-Mark order should arrive in the next day or two and I'll be able to get to work on the cowl.

Wingtips and center section are several layers of balsa, sanded and Micro-Fill smeared on and sanded smooth when dry.

David, are you going to use Silkspan on the Fokker? When you do the Micro Fil could you do a couple of photos of actrally filling. Also do you use dope to apply the Silkspan of Elmers glue all the way?

Dave, hope this is of some use . A link for a close up of the engine. http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_spidle3/fokker_dviii_nx94100/

Something new in your build, a WW1 bird.......
David Duckett, Comment for image # 660716 Feb 08 10:03
Check the listing. It's been raining and cold for two days and I can't go outside to start the filling and sealing process on the Savage. The balsa fillercoat and sanding sealer are worse than dope so I can't use them inside. So, in the meantime...........

Missed something, whats the one on top your working on? Building 2 at a time now...........getting really ambitous?
David Duckett, Image # 660716 Feb 08 07:59

Waiting for it to warm up so I can attempt a Poppy finish outside cause these are vile smelling things.

David Duckett, Image # 650610 Feb 08 15:12

I got thisFriday. There's nothing wrong with the cowling but I was hoping for a bit more engine detail.
