SteveM, Image # 8562 | 02 Jun 08 17:39 | Today's mail brought the rest of the Aero-Star power plant minus the prop. E-Flite Power 90, CC HV-85, CC BEC, and 2300 mAh A123 cells to be made into two 3S2P packs. |
SteveM, Image # 8367 | 16 May 08 04:01 | The little Tyro groans under the weight of the Aero-Star fuse. Tape is about all that is holding it together, tomorrow I will finish gluing it. Now I can start to measure and plan where to put the battery pack and how to get easy access to it. |
SteveM, Image # 8351 | 15 May 08 02:26 | Rudder and vertical stabilizer (dorsal fin) assembled and edges sanded to shape. Up next is the large fuselage. I think of it as the point of no return as I can't just put it back in the box and must find a place to keep it. |
SteveM, Comment for image # 8337 | 14 May 08 00:15 | I am thinking an E-Flite "Power 46" at 500 watts, it is designed to work in 40 to 46 size airplanes of 4 to 7 pounds. But I am considering getting the "Power 60" (for 60 size sport and scale airplanes 6 to 10 pounds ) and running it at 500 watts so that later I will already have the motor and ESC to power a .60 sized plane like the Top Flite kits. I would need a 14" prop, but I'm not sure if the Aero-Star has enough clearance for it. |
poppy, Comment for image # 8337 | 13 May 08 20:57 | This may take a larger electric or a .40 glo engine. |
SteveM, Image # 8337 | 13 May 08 02:28 | The stabilizer and elevator are built and sanded to shape. They weigh 2.9 ounces and are more than half the 36" wingspan of the Tyro. I used to think I had a big building board. |
SteveM, Image # 8092 | 29 Apr 08 12:59 | Some crazy generous guy in AZ sent me this kit, the box is 4' long. I have been pondering the merits of glow vrs. electric. The glow is cheaper to build but the cost of fuel makes it more expensive in the long run, even over $100+ batteries. |
