Luke, I have it! There's enough here that I think I can build it. I am now convinced that this is my first model, seeing the plans I remember I broke a side panel(instead of bending it). I thought that it was ruined until I figured out that I could glue it back. I don't remember them being this small! Many thanks! Alex

Luke, thank you! I'll be on the look out for it. I will be away part of the week end, but I will confirm when I have it. Poppy, I only had a 2oz bottle of silver oil base paint and a brush from WT Grants "Dime Store". I washed up in gasoline because we always had fuel for the tractor.(John Deere L) All of my planes were silver. Alex

Wow, Im stoked that this little thing is bringing back some memories for so many! Thats really kinda cool in my humble opinion! Alex, I've already made copies of this so I'll be sure to scan it and email it to you in the next day or so. Poppy, if you want a copy also just let me know...I'd love to see a throwback all black Bonanza! :)

This brings back a few memories for me also. My older brother had polio in the summer of '52. Since there still were some concerns about the spread of it, I was quarantined at home for almost a month. I think I built every struct-o-speed kit available. I only had access to black paint, so I had a bunch of black models hanging from the ceiling. They were fairly simple to build for a 9 yr. old with nothing else to do. Use your imagination as to what they looked like, but I thought they were beautiful.

Luke,That's a very generous offer. I'm not a collector, the box and original plan should go to someone who will preserve it. I would like a copy of the plan and the print wood. I think the wood was die cut, can you copy it? I'm at jdaawa@comcast.net. Alex

Jdaawa, Thats awesome that it's brought back such memories. As I mentioned in the previous photo I copied all the plans and what wood there is, so how about this: If you'd like this I'd love to pass it along to someone who would truely appreciate it. You'll probably have to make new parts from scratch, but if you'd like it than its yours. Just say the word. :)

I think this may be the first model I ever built. The kit cost $.25 at that time. I got paid $1.25 a day, one day a week, working in the Tobacco field, driveing a mule. This was in the mid 50s in south Georgia. What a memory you have brought back!

James, could you please create an appropriate category for this little jem when you get the chance? Thanks!

This is the extent of the build plans. I found a copyright 1950 at the bottom and I believe it! Everything is brittle, but at five cents the price was right! :)

Found this little doozy buried under a bunch of movies at a garage sale this past weekend. The wood is crap and its not all there, but there's enough of everything to make prints onto new wood! Could be a fun little project while I wait for paint to dry on the Flying Pancake.

Haha I figured of any group that I showed this picture to you guys (and gals!) would appreciate it the most. :) More pics of the airshow to come.

They should show all the bad guys in the world this photo. This is what we do in this country when we're bored. They should see us when we're aangry... --paraphrasing Chris Titus...

Jet truck Shockwave and Sky Pirates at the 2009 Cleveland Air Show. As my buddy put it, "It's not a question of why, but rather why not?"

The filler is already smooth and paint will also be smooth, as with the tubes. If you cut the relief strips in the wet silkspan, make very sure you have a sharp knife. The thinner the strips the easier it will be to get them to fit around the curve. As the dope and silkspan start drying they both shrink and you can see where any cuts will be needed.

Thanks for the tip David, I appreciate the reference photo from your DC-3 also. One more question though...why not cover the filler, will the dope break it down or just too tough a curve to cover?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 1386827 Aug 09 15:01
It should work fine up to the 2nd rib from the end of the wing but it will not for the U-shaped area at the front. That appears to be a filler and if so I wouldn't cover that or the tubes. Before painting, I would give the entire structure a couple of coats of clear dope to seal everything. Wet silkspan works the same on solid surfaces as open framweork.
