Thanks everyone.Aluminum. Abrasive blasted then lightly brightened with Scotchbtrite pad and sealed.

I think it's aluminum and the shafts, cuffs, are indeed hollow.

He is definitely a talented craftsman!! Is this turned wood or aluminum? It appears that the shafts are hollow.

I bring this back up to show how I think the racer should be built and this is in agreement with Heinrich. Once the sides are built they are turned upside down and glued to the crossmembers which are pinned to the plan. Once this is dry the bottom crossmembers are glued to the sides making the box. I think I would glue the tail together first which establishes the "V" shape as the other crossmembers are added, starting at the front. The top formers are then glued to the crossmembers. The bottom formers 1 - 5 are made from stock and are not sticks. Once it's all dry the side stringers are glued to the box and the top and bottom stringers are glued into the notches of the formers. Sound logical?

This incredible prop hub, sitting on a quarter, was made by Phil. I'm completely stunned at such work! Need a custom made part? I 'm pretty sure the image on the back of his business card is Da Vinci and that's entirely appropriate. AWESOME!!!

Very nice. I'd like to see that through a big zoom lens. With a big Saguaro silhouetted in it!

I also used them on the Shinden.

Thanks, John. These are Pinecar Show Wheels, the same type that I used on the F-86D, and also on the Savage. They're supposed to be for dressing up those pine car racers Cub Scouts play with. Their website is www.pinecar.com.
