Not only wing tips, I also see an underwing radiator scoop detail in the design stage. Bravo. Can't wait to see it.

Hobbylite is a balsa like fill that hardens just like balsa wood and is sandable, but not as easy to sand as Micro-Fill. It is heavier in texture than the micro-fill, which is actually micron sized foam balloons. I like to use the Hobbylite to fill areas that need some build up, like a sag between stringers, or in this case to build up top of nose cowl from canopy front to where balsa block begins by 1/16" to get proper slope of cowl top to spinner. I then use the Micro fill to fill in small indents left. Micro-fill is best for wing fairings because it is so easy to sand to shape.

Poppy: what is the difference between Hobbylite and Micro Fill????

Wing started. Note outline of new tips.

1st coat of filler. I will sand, apply one more light coat, sand, then micro-fill where needed. Primer coats follow this.

Lovely job Poppy. That's what I did also. The PIA part was adding the sheeting after, that actually simulates a drop in trough and is riveted on the original plane on the cowl. BTW. Though the hardest part of covering was the top of the fuse right behind the canopy and feathering to the tail plane. The Guillow's canopy accepted Micr-Fill wonderfully though.

Poppy. Been down this road before also. How much fun was gluing the split cedar roof shingles one at a clip. I made one with intentions of giving it to my niece/goddaughter. She's 24 now. I never completed it but it was 1/2" birch plywood which I can unscrew all partitions, sidewalls and roof. Modeled after a mansion on Todt Hill in S.I., NY. Maybe I'll finish it for my daughter who's 7 now. Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful, I wish my cover job looked as good. But, it's my first time. You sure do inspire me to, at least, attempt to reach that high of a standard.

No, it's a print and one of her finds of a a lifetime. Paid $2.50 at a garage sale. Appraised at $$$$$.

Is that, per chance, a painting by your wife?

Really nice, Poppy. I'm sure that will be handed down from generation to generation. I bet it flys like a house though. :)
