To clarify: This is one of 7 paintings of the emblem and is the one I gave Cory at the banquet two years ago. He was living in Switzerland at the time so he gave it to his Uncle who lives in Florida, and was at the memorial dedication, for safe keeping. The painting is still in Florida and the Uncle will be flying to Washington for the ceremony and unable to take it. Cory said the White House has its own way of doing things. Of course, the White House has no idea that the painting exists which is why I asked Cory to take it with him. It's really not about the painting to me but what it represents to everyone who ever wore it as part of their uniform and the pride they will feel to have been associated in any way with a man who is posthumously being awarded the nation's highest military honor, The Medal of Honor. I'll be quite satisfied to know that two people in the room for the ceremony own one of these.

Fantastic work!It just blows my mind they did not want to add the crest at the ceremony neverless you did yourself proud.

Fame has a way of doing that;o) But I think that the recipients of the painting and badges will appreciate them nevertheless.

Thanks. I learned yesterday my painting will not be a part of the Medal of Honor ceremony. Fame was fleeting before it even landed.

Yikes, stripes!

I'll go along with that. And I commend you on your sharing of your artwork with our fellow former brothers in uniform. You're a good man.

A very well educated kitty. I took some of you tech tips and applied them to my control line plane. I sanded very well, applied a coat of sealer, sanded with 220 grit, sealed again, sanded with 440, sealed then finally sanded with 600 wet/dry sandpaper. Glassy smooth! It's so nice I almost hate to paint it now. I am going with a creamy beige main color and burnt umber scallops on the wing and tail feathers. Will also attempt a two tone scheme of some sort on the fuselage as well. Thanks very much for you tips. Very helpful and I am sure they are going to take my finishing results up a notch or two.

So, does Patches approve of your workmanship? 'Videre est parari.'- To see is to be prepared. An appropriate motto.

Hi from New Zealand Bill. I'm in the top of the South Island and yes, unfortunately it's a big bugger. Luckily no-one killed but the place is a real mess with the ground under some of the city liquified - you can imagine what that means for underground services. I actually work for an insurance company whose Head Office is based in Christchurch so we're in for a hell of a time.

Yes, and we hope all are safe and well.

A strong earthquake of 7.4 magnitude hit New Zealand, 4 miles southeast of Christchurch, the biggest city on the nation's South Island, in the middle of the night local time, the US Geological Survey said on Friday. DON'T WE HAVE MORE THAN A FEW N. ZEALANDERS WHO ARE OUR FRIENDS HERE ON THIS BOARD?

I believe I owe you far more than a nickle...this is what the concept of the free exchange of knowledge and ideas was meant to be. By sharing our skills, knowledge and ideas we all prosper and become better people. If only the rest of the world would catch on :)

The SW product is less expensive and dries less dense than the hobbylite making it easier to sand but the final results are about the same. For what you plan, I would use the SW. I apply a rather generous amount to the structure, going with the grain, and let it dry thoroughly before sanding with #220-b waterproof sandpaper which is more flexible than the paperbacked kind. It's best to sand as soon fairly soon after it's dry because the longer it dries, the harder it becomes. Apply another coat , sand, and check to see if you missed anything. Any gaps or errors in construction (:-)) should now be rather small so fill and sand smooth. The filler leaves lots of dust so wipe it away with a damp cloth or brush. I then apply three coats of nitrate dope thinned to about 70/30 and sand after each coat is thoroughly dry, using finer sandpaper than the #220-b. After three coats the surface will be sealed, shiny, and ready for either covering with wet silkspan, or other material, or painting. Also check Poppy's hanger for a slightly different procedure. Deposit 5 cents, put the lime in the coconut, call me in the morning. Or...dduckett@triconet.org

John was assigned to this wing when one of their birds crashed on November 11, 1966. Google, or bing, EC -121H 55-5262 for info. He often speaks of the loss of his friends.

No...look in the bottom right.
