John M Oshust, Comment for image # 655111 Feb 08 21:39
And we were doing this before the Coronas!

Thats quite an anti aircraft battery. or an anti fowl battery. Either way it looks like loads of fun!!!

Moos...Going to multitask. The P-63 on even days, the Polikarpov on odd days. Waiting on the Polikarpove plan but got this one ready today. Reduced it by 50% now a managable 35 in span.

Looks to be a P-63A from that canopy. The Ruskies loved it. A lot more power than P-39. Another nice size scratch build.

The Barrel prepares to annialate the Sprit.

After hanging the Spirit, my wife liked it. Today I hung "Rotunda". Both await the spring and shipment to the cabin.

Remove the assembly....that is!
John M Oshust, Image # 628031 Jan 08 22:07

SteveM...here is the prop assembly from the Barrel. This shaft fits snugly in the fire wall. The prop turns freely. I can remeve this assembly, then the cowl, to show off the engine.

Yes, Whatever you use for the bearing tube, glue a ring of it to the shaft to hol the assenbly in place.
SteveM, Comment for image # 627931 Jan 08 21:14
Simple and effective, I like it. Is there another chunk of Al tube glued to the shaft right behind the prop to keep the prop from sliding back and hitting the cowl?

My plan to purchase a new plan has not followed my plane. The seller has not contacted me about the P-63 or the B-24. I ordered this plan tonight from Clevand Air. Polikarpov Rata 1/8 scale 44 in span

Yeah, that would be too heavy, I found some plastic pipe fittings at WWGrainger.com that I think I'll start with the 1/4" and see if that works. I'll keep you posted.
John M Oshust, Comment for image # 533112 Jan 08 20:14
Bingo!! My Barrel had a 32 in span the engine would look massive on your plane, spirit cylinders might work they were 3/8 in diameter brass plugs...tad heavy!
sweetwillie, Comment for image # 533112 Jan 08 19:54
Yeah, I just had a brain fart,I just realized that the engine in the F4F that I'm making is only a 22" WS so it'll be smaller than yours. Thanks, John, I'll figure it out.
John M Oshust, Comment for image # 533112 Jan 08 19:49
Determine the diameter of the engine that fits your bird. This will be the factor that controls the diameter and length of your cylinders. Of course you must account for the crankcase diameter. I must find new cylinder material or make cylinders for the Goose. 1/24 scale not 1/12
sweetwillie, Comment for image # 533112 Jan 08 19:42
I'll bet, but, what the heck, what else would you rather be doing. Would you say it's 1/4" or 3/8" just give me an idea. You see I have to order it online and I can't judge the size on the picture.
John M Oshust, Comment for image # 533112 Jan 08 19:33
SW I do not know the size, it is the size that worked on a 1/12 scale model. I eyeball thing s great deal and measure with dividers. The crank case was a plastic cap from hair spray. I must make three of these, smaller in scale, for the Tin Goose. 63 times three....189 pieces....OH BOY, what FUN!
