I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

It's a pity you can't see all the stars! At this time of the morning the Milky Way is in a NW to SE position and right now a huge constellation is brilliant and very defined with Venus just about in the middle of it. Unfortunately, I don't know what it is.

I like your astro shots, David. We had a good storm here last night, I got a lightning shot, I'll upload it later.

Smooth. This will make a beautiful model.

Anything as beautiful (in my opinion) as this bird would not be a "wham bang thank you Ma'am" build.

Thanks, John. There's a lot of work involved on this puppy and now the fill in....at least everything fits.

Love it, David...JFB. Can't wait to get back to mine.

Thank you Dave, very helpful. This structure will help "stiffen" my tail feathers. When the horizontal is 36" wide, the tips tend to want to droop. Can't have that!
David Duckett, Comment for image # 1370610 Aug 09 22:18
I used 1/8" balsa for the back spar instead of the 1/16" x 1/8" piece per plan. Increasing the surface area gives the covering more to adhere to. I added 1/16" x 1/8" strips to the top and bottom of the same size piece that is the leading edge. I then added the 1/16" stringers top and bottom (the plan calls for only one). Finally I added pieces of 1/16" stock to fill in the area between the leading edge and the first stringer. It's now ready for shaping and sanding. All the extra stringers define the shape and provide a more realistic appearance and the extra wood at the front will make shaping much easier. I don't like using 1/16" stringers but this is a fairly small and lightweight structure and larger stringers are too large. Once it's all together, it's quite strong. I will still add extra wood to the center where it is glued into the main structure and I'll probably fill it in completely with wood before covering but this is the structure I would use if covering with silkspan, after sanding and prepping, of course.

Extra wood at the ends make for easier shaping and smoother covering.

The fin frame is the same construction as the stabilizer. The rudder is 1/16" balsa center and the ribs are also 1/16". I got this idea from the big Top Flite kits.

Verticle and horizontal. I just want to see how you engineered it. I'm currently working on the tail feathers for this big C-46 and want to better understand your point of view.

Thanks, James...certainly, Bill. Do you mean the stabilizer or the whole tail section? I'm off to the big city and will get the shots when I get back.

Dave, would it be possible to shoot a really close up pic of the tail of this thing? I'd like to examine the detail of the structure. Thanx!

Looks great, David. I like the way the Diels kits are all the same scale.
