Jackson? I can't come with much real information. If you google Red Capped Manakin you come up with some information about a little bird that does a mating dance that looks like Michal Jackson on stage. I don't know if I believe any of it.

My wife and I are amateur birders! Don't bet your retirement fund (what's left of it) on our Ids. Assuming this was taken in Hawaii, we think this is a Common Myna Bird.

Thank you.

The Cardinal is the state bird of my home state, North Carolina, and there are several which live around here although I usually see only the females. Male sparrows have a lot of red around their heads.

Dismal evening weather made it difficult for my son to get some shots. Fathers day is flying day. Get some better shots tommoro. I'll have Jimmy fly and I'll photo.

Can anyone out there with a digi scale give a reading on ten pennies so I can check and see if my scale is at all accurate (cheap import so I don't know how accurate it is) because....

We've got something red here but I'm pretty sure it isn't a cardinal. Maybe a finch or sparrow.

Male Northern Cardinal, introduced into Hawaii, very common on U.S east coast, I'm not sure if it occurs in CA. You sure got some nice shots.

The wild guess was a Red-Cowled Cardinal. It is from Brazil but my sources don't indicate that it occurs in Hawaii. The Red-Crested cardinal has a top-knot, the Red-Cowled cardinal does not. Google both names and you should get some pictures. We searched all of our field guides and after I posted the comment I remembered your travel kit picture and looked to see that you were going to Hawaii. I spent a week on R&R in Hawaii back in the 60's.

Subliminal inspiration for the wing planform of the "Holiday"? Just noticed the similarity looking through my bird pics! jdaawa, they also had a type of pheasant(?) called a Jackson. Who needs a rooster when you've got Jacksons.

Yes, this was in Hawaii. Maui to be exact, on the SW side of the island. This is the lee side of volcano Haleacala so annual rainfall averages only "9-11" annually. Thanks fot the I.D. for this was the family's favorite, albiet most elusive, visitor. What was the wild guess, anyway?

We are trying to Id the red headed bird in the foreground, but before I do, was this in Hawaii? We think it's a Red-Crested Cardinal. It is not native it was introduced in the 1930s. (There are a pair of Northern Cardinal in the upper right of the picture, they ware also introduced to Hawaii.) If you were not in Hawaii....Ive got one other wild guess.

Since most everything was in and in working order, I decided to give it toss on a lawn area across the street. Has a nice glide. Gotta get the LG on and go thru the trimming thing. Felt a little uneasy making adjustments at 2:00 a.m.!
