Squint? Named after what we all modelers do when we're trying to see something up close?
Don C, Image # 3544924 Jan 16 12:45

Squint who thinks the only flying thing worth her attention is a bird and that workshops are dirty and dusty.

Fuselage silkspanned with 4 coats of dope.

Seems like it's time to post wings. Laser cut does go together nicely. Added extra stringers (5 per wing) and for simplicity, except for one row on the bottom, they are all 11X30 mm.

Unfortunately Dan passed away a couple of years ago. He was one of those "larger than life" guys that you don't often meet. We still occasionally talk to his widow. They were sort of another set of parents for our youngest girl. When I tried Rayl's idea, it only took about an hour before I was talking to the folks in charge of it in Maine who actually remembered my neighbor picking it up an a state to state loan about 25 years ago. Now I have several pictures.

By the way, are you in contact with your friend of the Beaver? Is he aware of your build? Would make for a wonderful story.

Wow! Amazing how life turns around. Reminds me of a guy named Dennis Buen. While in the navy, he used to work as a mechanic on Grumman Albatrosses. Twenty years later while visiting the boneyard of Davis Monthan in Arizona, he came upon the exact same aircraft he used to work on. He went through the bureaucratic paperwork, bought the plane and now its hangared and flown regularly out of Carson City, Nevada. Kudos to Rayl who managed to track it down. Come to think of it, gotta ask him how he does it.

Sky,this is the plane. Years ago it was piloted by a friend and neighbor in northern Minnesota. It flew over our home so much that my kids knew it's sound. Thanks to Rayl finding this picture, I found it alive and well in Old Town,Maine. The fun is in the challange of creativit y

Drudgery of some parts of the construction comes along first, so we can enjoy expressing our artistic talents later when we detail the model. Your infilling is great. 12 hours is a lot of time devoted to the fuselage. I submit to you of your dedication to this fine model. Have you decided on the color scheme?

sand, fill. sand, fill. sand, fill. The funny part is I believe that we all actually enjoy the drudgery part of the creative process.

Remember, infill is only half the process; filler takes care of the rest:-)

DD,I submit about 12 hours of infilling just to show how artistic and precise yours is. I'll keep practicing and thank God for paint.

Amusing thought: what if there's a disagreement between the two pilots on which way to go?
Skyediamonds1985, Comment for image # 3534414 Jan 16 20:02
Actually, I have to agree with Don C on his thoroughness of his research. Not everyday that we see all manners of the aircraft including some of the unfortunate. I had assumed the bottom of the float on the Loening would resemble those of these twin floats to the Beaver.

Only hope that Meku is watching this. He purchased a Guillow's Beaver awhile back.

I've seen this photo before on Meku's site as well as others. I always thought it was photo-app'd. Didn't know it was for real. Amazing. Dual controls? What was its purpose? -Sky

You selling? If so, by batch or individuals? Just curious. I've got a few bits but could always keep an open mind. -Sky
