Lookin' awsome poppy. Do you print the individual gauges on paper from your pc/printer?

I use darts at tips, then lightly sand the seams smooth.

Don't trust plans! I built the fin as per the plans. When doing some color research tonignt I discovered that the A1E's fin makes a smooth transition to fuselage. Too late to fix without a major rework. UGH!!

how did you cover the wingtips poppy?
poppy, Image # 2667420 Jun 12 15:51

Fuselage primer coat, wing covered with medium grade silkspan.

No, that's just all it takes.

Your solid covering technique sure does yield some beautiful results. I was just curious as to why you only glue every other stringer when attaching the sheeting? Did you have warping problems or something?

thanks poppy.

Brian,I get the 36"X6" sheets. If the wing has a wide cord, I have to glue 2 sheets together b-4 covering. Fortunately, this one is not so wide so just a couple of small strips at t/e was sufficient.

looks very nice poppy! how wide does the sheeting come in?

Well done, Sir.

Excellent!!!. I would have glued my hands to the work table by this point :)

This is how I skin all my "metal skinned" models.
poppy, Image # 2666418 Jun 12 01:34

Starting at spar, apply glue to every other stringer and trailing edge and to ribs at each end. Gently fold sheet over contour, pressing with both hands till it smoothly fits, then pin trailing edge till dry.

Use a good grade 1/32" sheet balsa. cut to fit inside leading edge and overlapping trailing edge by 1/4", apply glue to l/e and pin sheet in place. Let dry about 30 min.

I do not wet the skins. I will use 1/32" balsa sheet for the top, gluing the front edge in place first. When dry, I apply glue to every other stringer and the trailing edge, gently fold skin over the ribs(the 1/32 sheet folds easily)and pin the trailing edge till dry.

Looking good Poppy! I was just curious if you need to wet the thin balsa sheets to soften them when putting the skins on that have a lot of contour.

coming along splendidly.
