I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

You're probably right on that score. Didn't know that the kit was that old. Sorry about that. At least there are some techniques out there to help salvage some of the things in older kits.

Decals in kits this old not only yellow but dry out to the point that they can literally become dust. They also develop tiny cracks so that when the decal is put in water it disintegrates into a puzzle with many pieces. I never use the decals in an old kit. Even those in the B-29, about 20 or so years old, can and will crack. I suppose they could be sprayed with clear but the damage has already been done and a band-aid might not be sufficient.

I seriously doubt that exposing a 50+ year old decal which is already bone dry to the Arizona sun would make it good as new.

I read in a plastic magazine, that to remove the yellowed tint from the decals, simply lay out the decal sheet near a window and let the sun shine on top of the decals. Or tape the decal sheet to the window facing the sun. After a while (I think a few hours or more) the sun will bleach out the yellowing and the decals should be as good as new.

Beautiful paint. I also like the stealth landing gear.

Very nice,DD. You must be wearing white gloves to handle it.

I've used it often but not lately. I prefer other methods.

Thank you.

what's your opinion on liquid mask david?

I especially like the detail of the cockpit dd!

The insignia is from a Guillows P-38 with the red stripes added from other decal material. All else is paint. I'm not using any of the kit decals because they have yellowed.

Sky, I guess you missed this photo. Masking was done with regular masking tape. When the paint was dry I cut around the edges with a brand new xacto blade as the paint was sorta thick. The canopy isn't fragile at all and you don't need much pressure with a new blade. After all, it's only paint.
Skyediamonds1985, Comment for image # 3576827 Mar 16 22:08
What kind of masking tape did you use on the canopy? I looked at your previous postings and nothing was mentioned about the tape or how you managed to mask so sharply without cutting into the fragile plastic canopy.

Very sharp and crisp paint on the canopy.

And looking great David.

To my way of thinking, if you have to worry about how much time it took to complete, it is a job. Otherwise, it is a hobby.
