Great modification!! That should really help to avoid warps

The plans call for the keel to be 1/18" wide strips of 1/16" stock which seems to be common to Cleveland designs. That seems a bit flimsy for the 3/32" formers and stringers so I decided to make a solid piece keel of 1/16" stock. I also wanted to make sure I got it straight when joining the halves. Worked pretty good so I think it will be the way I build all Cleveland kits.

Is that balsa spine/keel something you added? I don't remember Cleveland kits having those pieces.

I didn't forget those Lockheed plans, just working in PA. Enjoying your build.

Tis a nice size. Who supplied such a nice shipping box??
David Duckett, Image # 3064501 Feb 14 17:06

The cockpit will be built of laminations on top of the infill.

It's a big Mosquito! On 36" stock for comparison
David Duckett, Image # 3064301 Feb 14 17:03

The P-80 is very close to the same scale as the Mosquito.

Supplies include 3/32" stringers, CA, Testors wood cement, glue extender tips, 2 1/4" treaded scale wheels, and decals.

As I'm using only two of these, I'll gladly share. I think they are used only on the fuselage. If interested, tell me the size and give me a snail mail address.

Thank you. While I share your admiration of the Spad one is not planned. I did build one as a teenager which was painted bright yellow and looked great until my sister destroyed it with her rocking chair on the front porch. The Fokker was one of my first kits, not this one, and has always been a favorite. I got this one simply because I got a good deal on it. The same with the other Cleveland kits plus the fact that they are just about the only ones in kit form of these planes. The Mosquito is simply an impulsive move, sorta like candy at the checkout counter. I was really looking for the Panther:-) I don't plan to build these in a row but interspersed with painting so I'm good for quite awhile. And speaking of the Spad as a work of art.....

I note the vintage Cleveland kits. I got into this because my father loved building. When he passed away in 1995 he was working on a 1936 Cleveland Spad XIII. At some point, I will try to finish it (probably uncovered, so I can see what I did and what he did). I follow a lot of your builds kind of compulsively, and I would love to see what you would do with that one. The Spad has sort of fallen out of favor as a model, which I have never understood. There are all sorts of great color schemes that have been used on it, and I could see you turning it into another work of art. There are usually one or two of the Spads available on Ebay, if you ever get the itch!
