Pneling the bottom is pretty easy, lay down on a flat sheet and trace the outline from the top side. Cut, glue and add 1/16 reinforcement. The top side is more difficult, I added stringers to the inside of teh ribs to support the balsa sheet.

The white filler was from a new container and it went on really smooth, much better than my original can, which may have exceeded a shelf life of fifteen years.

The J-shaped stringers were soaked in warm water for one hour, which did nothing for the 38 year old wood. I replaced the material for something a little newer. The old stuff is really hard, tough and I intend to use this except for the 3/32 on the outer wing panels.

Center section with cut-outs for the air intakes. I was a little off on the port side by one section, measure twice repair once, but thanks to Elmer's wood filler, I filled it in and it is almost perfect.

Starting to sheet the bottom, need to add stringers on the back of some panels that are large.

Cowling & access panels added

I let it dry overnight, but outside the humidity has been a factor. I think I will bring it inside and let the AC compketely dry this out. As for oil, I can't see that as a possibility, no source here. The two fuzzy areas were done one time without using sanding sealer. That might be it. I usually let every coat dry overnight to completely dry out. If my gauge is correct, we are looking at 85% relative humidity (Florida).

The reason for primer is to show the areas that need work. This is starting to look really good and the quality of the workmanship is evident. It's possible that you are not letting the filler dry long enough before sanding and it's not fully cured. I suggest 24 hours. Another possible explanation might be oil on the areas causing the problem.

Two spots on this side still show up. More filler, sealer and hope they go away.

Two coats of primer show every small imperfection. I have filled with Hobbylite twice already and they still pop up.

Fillets on the tail was done with Elmer's Wood Filler. It dries quick, gets hard as glass and in application just keep the finger tips wet and it smooths right out. If you need to sand it, just remember it is harder than any balsa you use. The blck mark is a paintbrush line, blue will cover it well. The black in the hinge areas was done to provide a detail mark after I spray.

18 cylinders, power enough I guess.

Tail section Starboard side. That is all I can remember from 6 years in the service, red light in every port.

All plastic glued down and control surfaces. Wife in the kitchen stuffing turkey, I am on garbage detail. I can handle that.

Thanks Bill, I am starting to notice some "things." I like doing this build, I need to plan the sequences and steps on paper. If it makes sense, I show it to my wife and she can tell me where it went wrong. I have never done one of these, quite nice lines.

As long as you can build an airplane that purty, who cares about how you spell it? CONGRATS!

I need to figure out what I am doing with this "teh" thing. Are there any doctor's out there? Is this a problem with my neurological system? I am doing this very consistently. It has been a while too. I could blame this piece of crap keyboard that was designed for Tinkerbell.

I also tried SCIG's tissue attachment method at 90 degree attachment point and slowly working around the perimeter. It works much better than my typical bull in the China shop appraoach. I scalloped out teh formers, used 3/32 strinders on the sides, pretty much everything that the VA Masters use for techniques, with not quite the same results. But I am getting better (Monty Python's Quest for teh Holy Grail).

Hey, it isn't me. I actually received a degree from college, I just cannot see what the heck is being typed in the tiny box on the upload section. I also use spell check just to make sure.

Nice profile. The canopy turned green with 42 years in the box, and teh cowling had a gross imperfection in the botton by the vents. Ordered noew from the folks at Guillows. Funny to see the old 1972 price list, things have gone up.
