Added clear plastic parts so i could add filler then cover with silkspan/eze dope. Sands out very smooth. Halfway covered.

Used a spray bottle wiped gently with a peper towel to get off excess/smooth things out. Water on tissue to start, 30% EZE dope for first coat to get it to stick. 50% EZE Dope x 2 coats.

They look very good. How do you spray the EZ Dope - spray bottle or paint sprayer?

good idea ed, i'll try pinning down next time.

I had this issue with the Taube and the Hannover. It's more a function of the tissue shrinking that caused the warping. I found that I had to be very careful about applying the tissue to avoid warps at the start. Then, when I applied the EZE-Dope, I did one coat on one side and weighed or pinned the edges to keep it from warping. Once dry, flipped it over and did the other side the same way. Repeat until you get the surface you want.

does eze-dope work better than regular dope as to warping on thin balsa parts such as elevators?
edtherenderman, Comment for image # 4250929 Jul 20 11:49
That's been my experience too. Just need to thin the correct amount. I use it right out of the bottle to attach tissue to the model, then thinned for shrinking and filling. And NO smell plus water clean-up!

Ok...I really like working with EZE-Dope and silkspan! When applied wet, you can apply large pieces without difficulty. It sands completely smooth. Seams disappearr in regards to contour. Nice product

Eze-Dope is being used. I have covered the stabilizer, the tail, the rudder and the elevators with impressive results. Silkspan covering, applied wet, 30% EZE Dope sprayed to anchor on frame, let dry. Spray on 50% EZE x 2 coats, drying in between. Sand edges with 400 grit sandpaper to finish. Pictures to follow.

This is a wonderful looking build! Odor free finish? Is that after you have applied the silk-span? I'm a big fan Eze-Dope thinned 2:1 with water. Very similar to working with Nitrate Dope without the smell. But always interested in new techniques.

I'll be interested to see how that "odor free" works. A couple of guys in the he RC club here use water based polyurethane, but I haven't tried it yet. Chicken, I guess. Your model looks great.

You have fine skills and the right motivation - she gonna be fine!

Thanks! I do need to cover it up though given my plans for finishing it. The aircraft I will be modeling this one after has some personal meaning. Hopefully, I can do it justice.

The positive feedback and history are greatly appreciated. Couple comments: David-this build approach should look very familiar. Your didactic has led to this result thus far. It was tough to count the number of 3/32" balsa strips on your build but I did it! Thank you for your guidance. As far as covering/finishing, I have been experimenting and have discovered an "odor free" means of achieving a smooth silk-spanned finish. Fingers crossed.

Two of the most important and iconic airplanes were seeded by Boeing when they designed the 247 twin passenger plane. First when Donald Douglas took the design and told his engineers, “like this, but better” and they created the legendary DC-2/3..and Boeing used the 247 plan form, expanded it to 4 engines and created the B-17..the legendary heavy bomber of the War. Your Fortress looks very clean.

....you beat me to that statement David!

Nice job. Sort of a shame to cover it all up.

That is looking very nice!

Let the covering begin!

Fitting is good
