I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Infilling done.

Wings infilled and first coat of filler applied sanded. Do any of you try to cover the wings of this size with one piece of silk span or multiple per the instructions???

Infilling bottom left wing (in progress).

Definitely! Finishing up the underside and will start planking parts of the wing.

Looking good. Infilling or tissueing the wings?

Note to self: be sure to purchase 3/32” balsa strip online during a pandemic because there will be a run on it at every potential store in the area. Toilet paper and 3/32” balsa: GONE!

Wings in progress. I had to read the directions a couple times to be sure things went smoothly

Lol - yeah infill is tedious. So is hull planking, and many other tasks related to this hobby or whatever you want to call it. It’s why I keep a lot of reference material in view..especially so I can stay focused on the target while working on the most basic tasks. You seem committed to honoring our past, your family, and an historic achievement - not to mention one of military aviation’s most important aircrafts.

Many folks have nothing to show for the previous 16 hours. Years.

This was my first true infill effort. Not sure if it takes a lot of skill or the sad acknowledgement that I have nothing better to do with 16 hours of my life!

Going for the G build. My Great Uncle flew in one of them and unfortunately was downed as MIA during WWII. Have always respected the aircraft.

I am sincerely thankful for these suggestions! I have some homework to do. i will try this on some non-aircraft balsa surfaces with filler applied and see which one I screw up the least ;-). More to come!

OK, I'll chip in also. I apply the filler with my finger straight from the tub. Occasionally, if it seems to be drying out in the tub, I'll mist a little bit of water in the tub before putting it away, but I don't thin it. As Heywoood said, I use a circular motion when sanding it down. Seems to give me a smoother surface. Then I do as David does with dope and silkspan. I have used an auto filler/primer (Duplicote) spray both before and/or after the 3 coats of 50/50 nitrate dope. With 320 grit sand lightaly until the wood color starts to appear. That lets you see if there are any imperfections. I've painted directly over the primer and I've also doped it first. Both work, but the dope will thin the filler and drag it around a bit on the first coat. BTW, it's looking good.

i have the utmost respect for people that can model biplanes and multiengine planes. and those who can infill even more. it takes extreme skills to do so.

Looking forward to your outcome on this Fortress effort. Is it going to be a G with chin turret? Or an earlier mark..

Sand between each individual coat of spackle/filler/ sealer. Don’t apply any surfacing product on top of another without sanding first...incase I wasn’t clear before.
