I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Once the extra stinger lines are lined out with a steel rule, I freehand the notches. I tried the cutter but even at slowest speed it wanted to cut deep so I switched. The bottom of the slot will be rounded a little but the 1/16 sanding stick with sandpaper squares it up nicely.

Do you mount the Dremel in something or "free hand" it? It looks like this can really save time and increase precision. Me, I might get a new nickname..."Sutures"!

I do the same with the .050" cutter tool on the dremel and a file. But believe me, it doesn't take only old shaking fingers to make a major rip in the wrong place!

Slick idea but with my old shaking fingers this could be a risky technique

Thanks. If the "as per plan" build is straight and true the extra stringers are a snap. These two pieces took 37 additional 3 foot 3/32" pieces to complete. You'll be happy with the added strength and overall shape.

Looks great! Just started a Catalina PBY. Going to try the extra stringer thing. TS>

Thanks David. Todays' nor'easter here in NJ allowed me some time to complete these two pices. BTW, I trashed the thin CA and went back to the medium. Muuuuuch better.

It will all be worth it. That's looking really good!!

Lots of extra mood means lots of extra sanding. Can't believe how strong this is now. I'll need it with all the handling and fitting of plastic later on.

With your extra effort these should skin real nice!

Bottom view of wing. Extra 3/32" wing root former provides additional surface for silkspan covering. Thanks for the idea David.

Top of wing with extra stringers and as per plan.

For the thin you buy small thin plastic tubes that you stick into the nozzle, and it helps immensly to control the flow. Makes it very easy to dop just small little drops out exactly where you need them. With thin ca, too much is not good. Just a little drop will wick thru the joint.

Left side stringers doubled. Rubber band at the nose assists in holding curve. Am using a new CA glue (Build It from Tower Hobbies) Using the thin and medium but the thin is like water. Tough to control amount of flow so I hope I don't experience problems

Half an hour later, notches on the left side are completed. The 1/16" sheet gives a perfect slot for the 3/32" stringers. Now for the right side.

A dremel with carbide cutter and 1/16" thick sheet with 220 sandpaper glued on does the trick for notching extra stringers. The dremel was set at slowest speed for maximum control.

Craftmanship always shows! You would be very wise to keep the wings detachable because in this case you don't need any fillets, unlike the B 17, and of course it makes working with them sooo much easier. I think you'll enjoy the heavy grade silkspan, too. With this type of construction you can always glue the wings permanently in place if you want to.
