Hey David, where did you get the nose wheels from?
BillParker, Comment for image # 2916824 May 13 20:25
ok, ok... thanks guys...

"At any price" gives me visions of large pots of gold so a better price is likely to be had on eBay if this exact kit must be had. Otherwise the plastic kit suggestion seems a good route to me as well.

May I suggest a 1:48 scale plastic model. They are pretty large and as close as your going to get to the Guillows version. 35" wingspan is a pretty large plastic model and for around $50 on ebay. That's my suggestion if she really wants it that bad. :)

Do any of you guys have this kit on the shelf, and might entertain offers for sale? I have a live one that wants to buy the kit at any price it seems for her father, who flew the plane...

There won't be a next time.

$1000, less $200 for shipping and $150 for supplies (extreme lowball estimate) leaves $650. At an hourly rate, you couldn't hire someone to say, "you want fries with that" for that amount of money, much less this fine craftsmanship. Next time, charge'em by the hour!

In my opinion, only another modeler truly appreciates the time, work, skill and craftsmanship that goes towards producing one of these masterpieces. And my quick calculations show that a round trip drive to deliver or pick up in person would cost a minimum of $1000.00.

In my humble opinion, if I ask David to build this master piece, and he got it PERFECT, no matter what the cost, it's "PRICELESS!!!!".

I figure it would cost about $300 in gas one way for my car and American gas prices but it didn't fit in my Honda Accord. It was always understood that shipping would be a major expense.

Google Maps says that it's 1708 miles, 26 hours driving from Marana, Arizona, to Afton, Minnesota. If you'ld walk, it would take like 525 hours ... 218 Dollars is a lot of money, but how much would it cost to deliver it yourself? I just calculated for my Diesel car, it would take like 800 Euros, more than 1000 Dollars. One way.

The tape will not remove either.

Hope the masking tape was carefully removed so as not to pull off paint and panel lines.

I made small boxes from foam board to protect all the "fragile" parts. These three assemnlies were then wrapped in plastic garbage bags before being packed.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 2928519 May 13 02:57
In this case it's a moot point. As I mentioned earlier, the box was too large to be mailed. They determine that by measuring the length and girth and it was 8" too large. In the past few years I've mailed paintings across the country and have always been charged for their dimensions, not the actual weight. I was told it wasn't always like that but it certainly is now.

I ran into this shipping fully assembled models across the country. I discovered that I could ship them complete with tracking and insurance by USPS overnight for less than it cost to ship them 5-day ground by UPS because of the "cube weight". USPS charges by actual weight. Not only that, but USPS has never damaged one while UPS has. I use USPS exclusively.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 2928518 May 13 10:41
As I've had no reply, I have to assume the box and contents arrived safely. It was certainly well packed and , see previous photos, well protected. It had 8 bags of peanuts, @$4.95 each, plus a roll of blister wrap inside, and the box itself is very heavy duty. I dealt with UPS for years when I was working and more recently as well as I buy lots of things from Amazon.com, like large canvases, and I have never had a problem with any damages. And...UPS will not insure anything unless THEY double box it.
Xanadu, Comment for image # 2928518 May 13 10:28
Unfortunatly most shipping companys have reverted to what they call "cube weight" on large packages, etc. So that is waht happened here. Sucks to say the least, would have probably been cheaper to send it via trucking company. Also does everyone know that unless you pay extra, your only covered with shipping insurance of $2 per lb......just to be forewarned.

I had a carpenter build a plywood shipping container to hold the Guillow's 500 series and probably a bit bigger. It weighs about 20 pounds, but the issue of damaged planes was over. The 4-ply could take anything that the shipper could give it, and empty or full it was less than 50 bucks at the UPS store. I had to put handles on this because it is awkward to lift. But the lid is screwed down with about 30 wood screws and washers.

Did it make it safely?
