Looking back at all the threads on the B-29, this was a big issue with the plastic cowlings. Dale1416 father's B-29 was beautifully done and you can see minor flaws in his cowlings. Like David mentioned, you have to work with what you have and hopefully, and in Dale's father's case, turned out exceptionally well.

Et voila! All the big Guillows kits use the same construction technique so these modifications will apply to them, as well. It's not easy but it can be done. I have found several problems over the years with plastic pieces in these kits being mal-formed and for kits still in production Guillows will replace them free. Of course, with this kit you will have to deal with what's in the box and there has been marked differences in the plastic in the three I've built. Sometimes the plastic is milky and resembles latex and sometimes it's white. In all cases it's fairly thick. I have pointed out the flaws in this kit several times for potential builders but when finished it is a very impressive model. Its faults have certainly not kept its price down. The last five sold on Ebay averaged $225.00.

The first coat of paint will instantly tell you if it's right.

Micro-Fill is no longer available but the fillers I normally use will do the job just as well.

We tend to be lemmings sometimes and expect that all up front is fine or that plans and pieces match. This was my feeling the first time I built this kit and the second time I got it better. For this third build I used the "measure first" idea and made sure the fit was correct before proceeding. The top plastic nacelle piece barely touches any of the structure underneath and has been trimmed to match the center where the other plastic piece meets.

The problem is that in all the large multi-engine kits from Guillows this structure underneath the plastic pieces is simply too large, and mostly unnecessary. I practically destroyed most of the top to get the correct fit. Even at that there is still the gap to deal with. Someone once said that Guillows plastic is what it is, meaning the pieces do not always fit, but there's little chance that they will ever be changed so the builder should consider that before starting the build. Pissing and moaning about is wasted bandwidth as is the persistent calling of die cut die crunched. Solving a construction problem is far more rewarding than constantly berating it.

I don't mind at all letting it sit. I got it at a very good price and it should be quite comfortable hanging with the other "hard to find" kits I've stashed away.

David, if I was still building, I would have snatched this up at first glance. But, with the amount of unopened kits I still have and plan to build someday; I would have been classified as a collector. LOL

As of this morning there are now 2 more on Ebay, $260 and $300, both from the same seller. I think I'll just put this one in the closet for awhile.:-)

Unreal as to how much these are going for nowadays.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 3443023 Jul 15 15:39
It hasn't been made in years, over 20 I would guess.

I don't have my multiengine license yet. lol!
David Duckett, Comment for image # 3443023 Jul 15 15:12
This past Monday there were 2 of these on Ebay, at $379 + shipping and $260 shipping included and both sold so Tuesday there were none. As no one expressed interest in buying this one I'll put it back on there next week at say, $300. Personally I think that's crazy but who am I to ignore the market, especially for one in such flawless condition.

guillows doesn't make the b-29 anymore?

Yikes!
David Duckett, Comment for image # 219814 Jul 15 12:32
There will be a substantial increase for wise asses.

David, do you recognize John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt?
moostang51, Comment for image # 219814 Jul 15 02:46
If I could find the time to build it, I would be all over this bird.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 219813 Jul 15 15:14
I bought one of these sealed on Ebay this morning and will offer it at $170, including shipping, once I check it out. If I don't recognize your name, the price will be $200. For builders, not collectors.

DD, thank you for including me in on your first build. Been reading all the "back issues" of posts that were entered into this forum years ago. To be commissioned to build a model speaks loudly of your reputation for quality. I know it's finished as I read the posts about the decals on the nose art. I enjoyed the part about saving the rain forest. Really gives me a great perspective on how much effort goes into the project, let alone the issues of balsa sheets D & E. Truly impressive & amazing.
