Just read about the shooting in Tucson. Hope you are alright, Mr. Duckett (David).

Good point but for anyone who loves planes it is very painful to see it on the news every now and then having gouged a hole in a runway somewhere.

He can't be too much of a noddy if he spends this much on a Spit! A bit embarrassing to prang such a high profile aircraft, but its better it is flown and pranged than not flown at all!

Noddy?
Roring40, Comment for image # 2062408 Jan 11 02:36
Great photo David. You might be interested to know that the noddy who owns the Spitfire has crashed it TWICE !

This is an amazing picture. It's hyper real, almost 3d. Absolutely beautiful. What I would give to be the pilot...

No, I just think it's a great picture. It's painted in nearly the same colors as my Hawker Hurricane and the invasion stripes are a bonus.

Is that a Duckett Spitfire Mk IX? I'll add it to the list... :)

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight maintained by the RAF.

Sorry...the photo was taken last year at an airshow in Waddington.

You're looking at New Zealand's only resident Hurricane fighter. It's a IIA and has combat history from the Battle of France, Battle of Britain and eventual service with the Russian airforce in whose service it was lost. There's some good info at the New Zeland Fighter Pilots's Museum at www.nzfpm.co.nz. This is my all time fav WW2 fighter. I remember it doing a takeoff at an airshow in New Zealand along with a Mk XIV Spitfire - the sounds of those Merlins at full power !!!!!!

Great shot. Thanks Mr Duckett. Looks to be a late build MK I. Really a very nice composition what with the eagle eye angle and all the fields below. Thanks again.

Agree that the Guillows 400 Spit is off on scale appearance. Something is up with the fin and rudder, and the canopy is not right either. I've still seen some nice models with that kit, just wish the scale appearance was better.

I really don't want another Spitfire but you are certainly right about the color. What I mean is that Cerulean Blue is a basic color and straight from the tube is much too dark but that's the beauty of mixing paint as opposed to buying a "correct" color, and paying for it, too. With a color this light, I mix white first and then add small amounts to get the correct color. If you start with blue you'll need lots and lots of white. In Liquitex acrylic paints, there are four different basic blues plus several "off" colors, as well. I prefer to stay with the basics since that's what I've used since I started painting. And as far as Spitfires are concerned, the Guillows kit is an odd scale and just looks slightly wrong to me.

Also re:Cerulean Blue...the base color looks too dark. Maybe C.Blue with a whole lot of white...let's see if this link works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerulean

Hi David, Taking it from a MK 22/24 would be a bit of work, but I see how you prefer the 1/24 scale kits. I think the Guillows kit is either a MK.II or a MK.V, but an odd scale...but easier to convert. Anyway, either, or...I can't see any conversion being beyond your talent or ambition. For the Spitfire I see the big deal as being the elliptical wing, which was common to most models only slightly changed at the tips with the 22/24. Sanding stick...done. :)

It was the competition for the Fw-189. It was put into production but used the same engine as the Fw-190 so they stopped it. Supposedly had very good handling characteristics.

There's way too much glass for me. I just looked it up because I had never heard of it.
