I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Yeah, me too, but it is the first time I've tried this. It definitely makes it harder and will require a bit more sanding.

Duly noted, but too late for the A-26. Everything is covered.

You will get a smoother surface without the silkspan.

I think this answers my question: silkspan, dope and then gesso? Looking good.

With two coats of gesso...

Everything is covered, doped, and glued in place and I have applied a partial coat of gesso. I'll put on a couple more when the filler is sanded smooth.

Yes.

The wheel inserts look nice as well. Plastic with drilled holes?

I do the same thing but use heavy grade (cover stock) paper. That way you can use white glue on two similar materials.

I actually covered the B-29 and the F-14 with Gesso. It worked very well indeed!!
David Duckett, Comment for image # 4001518 Mar 18 12:29
No bad odors, at all.
heywooood, Comment for image # 4001518 Mar 18 11:32
Thanks for the info, Dave - I can't wait to try it out.
Don C, Comment for image # 4001518 Mar 18 10:45
Instead of doping? Any bad vapors?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 4001518 Mar 18 08:34
For canvas it's left alone. For balsa lightly sand after letting it dry, 24 hours recommended, and then give it a coat of filler, repeat and then sand lightly with fine grade paper. You only need light applications of filler. Gesso dries quickly to the touch but sands better if allowed to dry thoroughly.

Do you sand the Gesso with a fine grade paper or is it meant to use without sanding..

*I see.... Welp I’m off to the local art supply, thank you Mr. Duckett!
