The Albatros is looking good my friend. You may try to E-mail James direct that seems to be a fairly effective way to contact him. Looking forward to more updates on the albatros.

James, could you add an entry for this plane (Albatros D.V from plans by Earl Stahl) and a Guillow's Space Shuttle (kit #1201).

Balsa blocks for all but the cargo bay doors. The doors will probably be balsa sheet that has been soaked in water then dried into the proper shape. It'll be a while before I am ready to build this one, it will have lots of challenges, including those yellowed decals dated 5/82.

What will you do about the plastic parts?
SteveM, Comment for image # 502511 Nov 07 16:18
I photocopied all of the plans and will use all new materials so that the kit remains intact and can be passed on to others that would enjoy it.

OOOHH!!

jgood, would you be so kind as to add this plane? It is an Albatros D.V from plans by Earl Stahl. Is there a way to move these pictures to the new plane entry after it is made?

Looking forward to seeing the Corsair fly. Cant wait to see the progress on the Albatros.

I have decided that I will try to fly this plane. In fact, I will try FF electric. Finding suppliers in the US was rough as non-rubber FF (electric/jetex/rapier) seems to be far more popular in the UK. My plan is to continue the Albatros D.V build until I have the motor and battery in hand.

I used a bottle of canopy glue wrapped in sandpaper as shown at the top of this picture. It seemed to be about the right radius. Your idea of marking the sides sounds good, I am thinking of replacing the right side of the lower wing (the upper one in the picture) and will use your method of marking.

Chris, from the superb quality as seen in your builds, I really wouldn't think that a 1000 series size aircraft would pose any problems. In fact I'm sure it would become a beautiful aircraft as all your others are.

Definitely a tough job.To achieve symmetrical arcs I would measure in the depth of the scallop and also mark the end points at the trailing edge. Then with fine sandpaper wrapped around say an empty 35 mm film cannister or empty paper towel roll, remove material until I make contact with the three points of each scallop. It's all trial and error. Just see what would give you the closest finished arc prior to sanding. That's what I did on a Nieuport started but never completed 25-30 years ago even though the kit was supposedly "pre-cut". Sorry I didn't suggest this before.

I'll try not to set the bar too high, as if I could!

Hey SteveM I'm looking forward to seeing this build progress. I've been planning a DVa for my next build.
moostang51, Comment for image # 491003 Nov 07 18:03
Looks like a fun build. Enjoy scalloping those trailing edges. LOL. Was heavily into WWI as a teen but have yet to build an aircraft from this era. Go figure. The D III and D V were nearly identical. Check out the build of the 7.92 MG on the DR-1 Barnstormersgrandson created (tremendous) since the same gun was used on this aircraft.

You guys are good. It's an Albatross D V, plans by Earl Stahl.
moostang51, Comment for image # 491003 Nov 07 06:43
Agreed. Would say an Albatross D III or D V.

Looks like an Albatross.

This kit costs $21.46 from Penn Valley Hobby Center and lists for $24.95. They are the store I got my F-5 and F-18 from and are highly recommended. It will be easy to call them and have it sent to you. I'll be happy to get the exact price if you wish and since you're on my email list just let me know when. Of course, there will be a small handling fee of say, 300 or so Gazillion pounds but I'll take a check, or cheque.
cdwheatley, Comment for image # 490202 Nov 07 13:01
Wow, that's really a very kind offer indeed David, thank you :-) I may well be contacting you sometime soon to that effect. How much do these kits sell for? They look similar in size and complexity to Guillow's series 500 models, but laser cut of course. Agree with you about this build, very nice indeed.
