I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

You know, Heywoood, we all know the flaws in our work and what didn't work like we figured, but usually no one else does. I know what you're feeling, but to me it looks good. I'm waiting for the decals, etc. I don't think I'd toss it. I am modifying a Diels F-86 canopy for the F9f. You're right. They are about as light a material as you can get. It's going to be the very last thing done to the model before it goes on display. Otherwise I'll probably crush it.Just so you don't feel alone - I have about the smoothest paint job I have ever done on that wing - but the color just isn't right, so it's coming off. Just bought the new paint today. Onward and upward!

Very F-100 - super.

If I had a choice to go back and start over I would probably not have tried to cut the canopy up to make it operable. This canopy is probably made of the thinnest material I have yet encountered. I though building a suitable frame would make it manageable but that didn't pan out. Since that area is a huge focal point of any model this one in particular because the F100 is so basic in form, it just creates too much of a distraction to the eye. too messy for me in other words. There are other issues with the finish and without itemizing it all I'll just say this wasn't my best work and regroup...it happens sometimes. Moving on

I think it looks good, can you mention what you would change/ do better? I have several builds going at once. If i get stuck i go on with another one untill i get a solution to a problem. Many friends tell me that i should focus on one untill im done. I respond with the fact that i have more than enough to fly. I build for the fun, no haste. Take a break and decide what to do :)

I had taken a break for a few days. I'm not real pleased with this effort I gotta say. Nothing wrong with the kit - I'm just not getting the results I had hoped for or expected...it happens sometimes and often times I can adjust or make corrections but for whatever reason it just isn't happening on this project. I will complete the panel lines and apply the decals - seal it with a semi gloss clear coat and call it good. Maybe a break from building is called for.

That does look good an like Ray said, it's big!
rayl, Comment for image # 3888018 Jun 17 11:28
Very nice Keith. It is larger than I thought. Might have to do one myself someday.

Will the ejection seat still be operable? Safety first...
heywooood, Comment for image # 3887817 Jun 17 23:26
it all went together very squarely in the end... tomorrow I can begin the painting process and attach the LG. I still need to fabricate some support struts and figure out the arrangement of the doors on those wacky main gear. Then I can fabricate the pitot and refueling probe along with the two external fuel tanks and their pylons
heywooood, Comment for image # 3888017 Jun 17 23:22
so I've had to scrap my plan to make the canopy operable. The hinge solution I had tried would no allow it to open to the proper angle...not really close to it. So for now I have the canopy and windscreen attached - the canopy with white glue and the windscreen with the combo of CYA and white glue. This way I can remove the canopy after painting if I decide to, and reattach it in the open position.

I'm just going to draw lines. :) I have been trying to upload a picture of the Thunderbirds at Minneapolis in July of '61,but it won't cooperate. They put on a great show. Too bad I only had an old Kodak and you can't see it here.

Yup!

Thanks for the book reference - I have put a hold on it at the library. North American used the same system to control the gear doors on every aircraft. Sometimes the bleed off happened faster dependent on wear and other factors but no set of pumps and lines was perfect. I can imagine a museum or display example having these items sealed or secured for any number of reasons, the aircraft being essentially in 'dry storage' - can't have them bleeding fluids all over those nice, polished floors. I am currently reading 'Hangar Flying' by General Mc Peak - it's a good read. Also have 'Bury Us Upside-down, the story of Misty FAC' on deck
