Thanks. About 95% of the red and all of the black were masked.

For some reason I did not think you masked the curves and wondering how you do the masking. BTW it is beautiful and thanks for another tip on painting.

this allows you to get the intersections done without tape voids...nice

I think the kit provided templates are excellent and told Dumas the same...equally good ones are provided for the Hall's Bulldog.

Good information. Would have made painting the A-26 much quicker. You are absolutely correct that by itself Cadmium Red Medium takes many coats. :)

Liquitex acrylics are very translucent. The color on the right is pure Cadmium Red Medium Hue and if used by itself would require many coats. The color on the left is that color mixed with light gray which adds an opaqueness to the red. This covers in two coats and the red then got three coats. Adding light gray does this to most colors.

Underpainting

Patterns for the paint scheme are included. Trace carefully with a pencil.

Masking is done in stages. The paint dries faster than it would take to mask the entire thing.

I've been doing it this way for years. You don't need a lot of pressure while using a ball point pen this way so tracing over a silkspan covered area is safe. Another point is that pencil tends to smudge so with multiple letters cover the ones not being painted with paper. There is also a spray fixative available just for pencil drawings which will prevent smudges.

Thanks, DD. I've been making stencils, but am going to give this a try.

Now the pencil tracing is on the bottom so tracing it with a ball point pen transfers the tracing to the surface. A ball point pen is used because its rounded tip is easier on a surface whereas a pencil might tear the paper.

Turn the reverse tracing over and it's ready for transfer.
David Duckett, Image # 4047106 Aug 18 17:04

Turn the tracing over, cover with tracing paper, and trace this time using a pencil.

Trace using a pen or pencil. I use a pen for sharper lines.

Don & Gary:How to transfer numbers or anything else you can trace. Tracing paper is a common item. Tape the pattern in place and place a sheet of tracing paper over it taping it in place.
