"Tanks" for the photos....wonderful! |

Amazing what a few "bits and pieces" will do to make such fine detail VERY NICE WORK and CRAFTSMANSHIP |

Almost ready for action. Where are my tracks! |

More of the engine deck. This deck shows that this model represents an M4-A2 diesel powered tank. Most diesel tanks were shipped to our allies, but the Marines used them at Tarawa and Okinowa. This one will be a Marine tank. |

A few more details for the turret top. And yet a few more to go. |
Creosotewind, Image # 20725 | 20 Jan 11 13:46 |
Detail of the driver's hatch showing the periscope, hinge and spring. The spring is thin wire wrapped around a pin. Each hatch has 8 parts in addition to white glue to create the "bump" to allow headroom for the driver. Materials are solder, basswood, card stock, dowells and wire. |

More of the front end. The silver shape around the bow machine gun is solder. It represents the snapdown fixture for a canvas hood to protect the machine gun. |

Front showing the reshaped tranny cover. Other details include applique armour over the drive and ass. driver hoods. |

The front end. I had to reshape the transmission cover, as it wasn't round enough. I cut shapes out of card stock, glued on either side and filled with lightweight spackle. You can kind of see the original shape (wood) and the new shape (white). |

More Sherman details. These are the left and right final drives. Each is basswood, dowell and card stock. 8 pieces in each one. Should be substantial enough to handle the strain of the tracks. |

VERY NICE!! I like your lift points |
Creosotewind, Comment for image # 20312 | 30 Nov 10 09:53 |
Oh, yeah, the lift rings are heavy solder wrapped around a brass tube. I drilled holes using my drill press after rigging up a jig so all the holes would be aligned. |

The driver's hatches each have a "bump" toward their backs, I think to allow the driver a bit more headroom. I replicated that again with many layers of white glue. |

I had drilled holes anticipating using furniture plugs for the armored fuel caps. Instead I went with the brads, so I had to fill the holes. The fuel caps include the metal brad, two short pieces of 1/16" dowel and two strips of paper. Once assembled, each cap was coated with white glue to blend all the parts, |

I reworked the engine grill. Cut out the old one and made a new one from stiff paper (one of my business cards) and very heavy guage guitar strings. |

I'm really enjoying this build - great craftmanship. |

The holes on the engine deck show where the fuel caps will go. I scored the deck lid with an Xacto knife and straight pin, but may redo it as it tore out some of the wood fibers and is not as neat as I would like. |

The white brads were used as the ventilator caps. The wood furniture buttons will be used for the fuel caps. Both were found in the crafts section of a hobby store. |

A bit closer detail. The extension boxes for the driver and assistant show this to be an earlier version of the Sherman. A revised front end made the tanks roomier and easier to manufacter. |

Front/top view of the Sherman. The driver's hatches and vents are new. |
