I use a glue stick for tissue, it works great. For balsa I use Testors wood glue. For plastic I use either Testors 'Clear Parts Cement' which is amazing, or else Scotch 'Quick Drying Tacky Glue'. It isn't really tacky and it's white like Elmers but it holds its shape; it doesn't run.

thanks bob! does it do plastic? i didn't see it mentioned.

....it is quite slow setting too.

Coming along nicely Brian - I find that "Elmers" Glue-All is quite good for those awkward jobs and it really does glue all!

what's a good glue for plastic, tissue, and balsa? i use to use testors plastic red tube, but it's no longer available and the glue i have is old and cracking the finish when i use it. ca is too quick to dry. i'm looking for a glue that allows you time to change things. thanks brian.

ed, i was able to paint this section covering up the cracks, with a light film of yellow paint. next i'll try the rear canopy.

thanks ed, i got some enamel model masters primer, but i've been using acrylic. i'll have to look into acrylic one's though. thanks again.

Since you can't sand it, I'd put a layer of primer over it to seal it, then put the yellow on. I user regular car primer. In this case, I would avoid a "sanding/filler" primers since those are pretty thick. I'd look at gray or white. You just need something to seal the coats of paint below. As for order of paint, I usually don't mix. I'm using acrylics for everything now. However, I think you can apply acrylics over enamel, but not the other way around. Maybe someone here knows more

thanks ed, the problem is this is plastic and the rear fuselage is tissue, so it would be hard to sand and i would have to start over. but i'll try putting a light coating of yellow on and see how that goes. by using a primer on the plane before painting helps in this situation? next time i'll try that. what kind of primer should i use? the enamel or acrylic? what order should i apply the paint? acrylic over enamel or enamel over acrylic? i can't remember. i looked up on the internet for a solution and they said the paint might be too dry or too wet? thanks ed!

Brian, I've had similar problems, even with the same brand of paint if I put the paint on too thickly. It looks like the yellow is shrinking as it dries. I'd suggest: 1) sand off the yellow, 2)put a thin coat of gray or white primer (if you have it) or paint of the same brand, 3) Put on several VERY THIN layers of yellow, letting each dry completely before the next coat. I think you will find that, with the white or gray on underneath, you can use much lighter coats of yellow to cover and will not have as much issues.

it's mission models paints, yellow over black green both acrylics. it says it airbrushes on plastic, resin, and metal. maybe that's it?

Looks like the paint on top does not stick to the bottom. Like trying to enamel over lacquer.
BriandKilby, Comment for image # 4322705 Jun 21 14:52
under the fuselage and wing tips it's fine, though.
