With a different back ground, it sould be a Ramp shot at Edwards. Now on to the installation of the cockpit innards and finishing up the canopy.

Nose Gear and doors.

The Main L/G doors in place.

Must get '92 done before starting other projects! These are two of the main L/G doors and the hinges that I fabricated for the Nose Gear doors. The picutres of the real thing showed that the hinges were pretty massive castings which has given me pause for quite some time. The light bulb moment came and I drilled a slightly off-center hole in some Dowel Stock, sawed off thin sections then added the attachment points.

I may be wrong, but I believe it is a Grumman J2F Duck.

Yes, it's a Grumman product. It was an evolution of the Leoning amphibian of the early 30's. I think that it will be in 1/12 scale: (1) easier on my eyes, (2) Williams bros scale parts available for engine & wheels, (3) It's not big of a airplane.

That will be an interesting build. Anticipating it.

Nice choice and it's a bipe! I do believe it has a great deal with a Grumman F3F-2 that I have modeled a few years past. This is going to be sweet!
BriandKilby, Comment for image # 3361124 Mar 15 11:52
is it a Grumman?

I really love this plane...way cool!!!! Don't think there are any balsa/tissue kits out there.

I have this plane in Glenco Models 1/48 plastic. Thinking about building it. Looking forward to your build.

I believe that I have found my next project. Owned and restored by a chap in Waukegan(?). It is a actual survivor of Pearl Harbor. It flew search missions the afternoon of the event.

!!!!!!! Cool!

Great job. Standards upheld. You captured the "Green Chromate" color I believe perfectly. Took a lot of yellow and black nix to get mine. Seems like long time ago.

You know, every time I think I'm doing really well, you, Poppy, DD, John O or someone goes and raises the bar making sure my hats still fit.

Thanks poppy. Just trying to uphold the standards of the VA.

It looks great! Beautiful details going on here. Very realistic!

Careful when playing with this it may eject:-) Looks real!
rayl, Image # 3354519 Mar 15 16:48

I couldn't resist throwing everything into the hole to see what it looks like.
rayl, Image # 3354419 Mar 15 16:47

The pnuematic hoses are soft solder with very fine fuse wire wrapped around it, then CA'd in place. Quite convincing IMHO.
