SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 10-May-08 16:03 | | Views : 876 | I ran out of time to post this last night. The wingtip and all wood forward of the spar are all new. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 10-May-08 16:01 | | Views : 903 | They're not perfectly straight, but good enough. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 22:19 | | Views : 870 | On impact the ESC plug came out of the radio, but the ESC and watt meter still had power. These pins took a beating from plugs yanking out, but they can be straightened. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 22:17 | | Views : 896 | I didn't think the guy would be able to get to my plane, but he took one look at the tree and said "no problem". He climed as high as he could then used a long pole to slip a noose around the nose of the fuse then lowered it down to me. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 15:10 | | Views : 841 | Ah yes, right near the top. As one RC pilot of 38+ years told me - next time crash lower in the tree. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 15:02 | | Views : 867 | Oh yah, you all know what this pictures means. Obviusly pilot error was involved, but in my defense there was an issue with the wind blowing my off track then I couldn't seem to get power or lift enough to avoid the oak tree. |

SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 15:00 | | Views : 903 | Flights on the new batteries were 20-23 minutes with 900-1000 mAh drawn from the battery. Recharges took 20 minutes with 90% of the recharge done in the first 13 minutes. This was about as high as I care to go for now. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Flying | 09-May-08 14:58 | | Views : 861 | Out at the field again, 2 hours before gassers are allowed to fly. Warmer than before and a gentle breeze that will eventually shift 180 from what the wind sock is showing now. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 08-May-08 22:47 | | Views : 881 | The Tyro is repaired once again and tips the scales at 17.2 ounces with the A123 cells (3S1P 1100 mAh). The rather large piece of wood on the floor is a fuselage side from the Aero-Star .40 that DD so kindly sent me. Next flight is tomorrow morning. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 05-May-08 23:57 | | Views : 855 | I added some tabs at the rear of the hatch so those magnets are probably not needed. The velco patch helps keep the battery from sliding left and right, there really is no room for the battery to move up or to the front or rear so this might be enough. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 05-May-08 23:52 | | Views : 810 | The new battery hatch is held on all four corners with magnets and a 2-56 nylon screw in the front helps hold the hatch and and provides a handle. |
SteveM | Molt Models Tyro | Build | 05-May-08 23:50 | | Views : 914 | The fuse is back together but I may need to spring for a replacement fuse if I keep running it into the ground. The servo tray was moved aft to make room for the battery, luckily I had left the nose wheel cable a little long. |
