I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Pfalz D.3 Scout (WW-11) is two single sided sheets and was also $7.20 after discount.

AMA prints include card stock and decals, though the decal part borders on useless. There were three single sided sheets for the mosquito for a cost of $7.20 (AMA members get a 10% discount).

Original Mosquito plans on the right (double sided) and AMA copies on the left (single sided).

From time to time there is a discussion of how to get plans for discontinued Guillow's kits. I finally decided to try it out and placed an order with the AMA plans service, 7 days after dropping the form into the mail the plans arrived at my door.

Anyone can enter the G challenge simply by joining the group and following the rules.

First off congrats on the win Steve, you definitely earned it in my opinion! What is the Guillows G Challenge and is it something anyone can enter or a private contest?

Thanks! The 2009 challenge looks to be popular as we are doing the inexpensive 600 and 700 series and all rubber power.

Congrats Steve. Great looking bird there.

The only reason I would lose controls is if the BEC shut down, powering off the radio. When I got to the crash site the ESC had cooled and the controls were working again. My guess is the middle FET shown here caused a heating of the ESC which caused a thermal shutdown of the linear regulator that powers the radio. Rather than wait ~4 weeks for warranty repair I am considering just replacing the FET and seeing if that fixes it, but at the same time I'd hate to have it die again.

OK, Now I see. When this fried it shut down the motor and the controls too.

Ouch! Now exactly what happened to cause the controls to go dead as well as the motor? I don't mean that to be a dumb question. I haven't flown RC since vacuum tubes and rubber band escapements.

When I'm done with repairs I hope you'll remember the photos of it flying. The damage is quite minor and its nice to know it wasn't due to pilot error as is the usual cause.

Every time I think of building a plane to fly I shall remember this photo. Sorry Steve, you had a lot of time in this one.

I was operating well within the limits of a quality brand ESC so I was a little disappointed that it failed. My first thought was that I had overloaded the BEC, but it looks to me like at least one of these motor FETs got very hot.

This is what an ESC failure looks like. I had finally got it trimmed out pretty well and was getting a good feel for the controls and was thinking it was time for pictures when the motor shut off and the controls went dead.

"Crazy Eddie" was there this morning, perhaps I could talk him into taking a few pictures of the P-51 in flight...
SteveM, Image # 982214 Nov 08 14:43

Crisp, clear, calm, fall morning, it just doesn't get much better. Today I only brought the P-51 and Aero Star to the field as my focus was on the P-51.

This is really sweet! And to think it flies!! Good luck on the challenge.

Also, the AUW with flying prop (not pictured here) is 8.75 ounces. I expect that to go down slightly as the LG doors get knocked off.
