THAT is a big Aeroplane!!

The indoor low light is to blame...the color is actually gray and at this point there are two layers painted on with brushes. I do not use spray paint normally. There is a raised line between colors which is barely visible but is enough to allow painting right up against it. That will come in handy when the other colors are applied.

Hi David. After you masked off those black and white stripes, how many layers of that grey-green color did you spray on? Is there a visible raised paint line between the white and the grey-green color? I really like that color scheme.

This kit is copyright 1944 and the included wood was plywood so the model was built with all new balsa. The old wood in the Guillows kit is only getting older and if you allow that to keep you from building the kit, you'll just be getting older, as well. The parts are easily duplicated and you can get all the parts from a couple of sheets of balsa.

looks nice david! I want to get my guillows done sometime soon, but it has old wood issues.

Thank you. Yes, it's quite a handful.

Wonderful. I bet this thing is huge, sometimes it's difficult to judge from the photos.

Greetings, Richard, glad you decided to join in.

Guten tag Herr Duckett. Your build is polishing right up to perfection as usual. The boys restoring the Mosquito here in Windsor would be enthralled with it. When I saw your earlier builds 3 yrs ago, you inspired me to try infill planking - which I did on a 16" Guillow Jap Zero Floatfighter. I will post pics of it soon as I am still learning how to use my new (free from my friend Bob who volunteers working on the Mosquito restoration) digital camera that is 13 years old - no macro lens on it.

Thank you. By this time I'm tired of looking at the infill:-)

That's really looking nice, David. It's almost a shame to cover up all that nifty fill-in work you did. Even if it was just stained it would be a work of art.

41" wingspan, 16.7 ounces

You can use 320 or 400 grade if the SILKSPAN has been doped. I don't use tissue so I can't say.
BriandKilby, Comment for image # 3715917 Nov 16 08:41
are you able to sand tissue that's not infilled without it tearing? what grade sand paper would that be?
julinick, Comment for image # 3716117 Nov 16 08:26
Ooohhhhh yes!!!
David Duckett, Comment for image # 3715917 Nov 16 08:06
Happy hands :-)

you got your hands full, dd, with the panther and the mosquito!

The entire blue area is windows!
Don C, Comment for image # 3699825 Oct 16 15:49
OK, thanks. I guess the question came because you were not going to cover the blue area. Not covering the the windows I got, but not covering the entire blue area threw my brain into its "overthink" mode.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 3699825 Oct 16 15:20
The blue area is, of course, the glass. I painted on several coats of clear and fine sanded that area smooth because it will not be covered. I then drew on the window frames in ink so I would know where to cover. And as I had a small container of blue paint I put on a thin coat to see how the whole thing looks. When the plane is fully covered and painted I'll decide what color I want to use for the final color of the windows. The frames will be done with regular masking techniques and painted masking tape cut into thin strips.
