You will, young man, you will!

Wow I would never be able to put that much time in a plane. Im only 14 so I dont have that kind of patience.

Thanx for the comment. This is my first model in 38 years. I never built a biplane as a kid and always liked the camel. My pal and now deceased uncle Stan always told me I could never build a stick model....guess I showed him. This will not be the last another one on the board scratch built Curtis GosHawk Navy bi plane from the 30's. As of tonight 257 hours in the Camel!!!

Did you really make this model. I can't believe how detailed this is. How long did it take you to make this? What others have you made?

Yegor checks the spacing dimensions from the original Camel plan as Boris prepares to use the measuring stick.

Yegor exclaims "Boris we really are Bi....plane , that is! Popsicle stick struts, used them for the same purpose a long time ago!

Boris takes a peek through the observation window in the upper wing. He wants thermopane glass!

Thanks for the info...

First I painted the cowl yellow then made a mask fron 1/2 in drafting tape. I cut 1/2in squares palced them on the cowl tapering toward the nose. Real pain. Today I spent a good deal of time touching things up a bit as the tape does not give perfection. NEVER AGAIN!

I think that it looks great. How was it accomplished? Brian

That cowl looks great!! I tried this once on a P 47 and decided not to ever try it again.

THe cowl adds some ethnic color (Ukraine Flag) to the drab olive brown. I must make a slightly longer set of struts. Boris complained too difficult entering the cockpit!

The fuselage is painted, 4 caots, thanks DD. THe last coat I added talcum to the paint to get a very flat texture. I used talc in paint as a kid when I couldn't afford flat!

Boris watched a cartoon and asked for checkered paint. He was disappointed to find he had to do it by hand. W/O his help this task , impossible! Cowl not finished yet.

Thanks for the tips. I think the "twist" is what is gonna get me. I'm not a great mechanical visualizer even though I am an engineer...electrical. Well at least I have plenty of balsa and I have a number of kits I will be needing props for, so I'll have to learn it sometime!

With the Spitfire plans there is a template of the prop. Make a photocopy of it, then cut the side and front views out, use them as templates. The Guillows prop is not scale or even close to what the Spitfire had, but the templates provided are much better. Hard to explain, but you have to visulize the end result so you can acheive it. Take your time, do one blade at a time, then glue them onto the mainhub after. You need to carve a "twist" into the prop and taper the edges to match the templates. I carve my Stuka prop in this manner.

Years ago I bought a small drill press. A drill or dremwl could work. I purchased an assortment of drum sanders. Looked at the Guillows prop and started sanding! A little filing and sanding and it worked!

Any good tips on carving propellers? I'm starting the 3 blade for my spitfire. mo
