Still, for anywhere between $3.84 to $4.42, you get a dozen "pulleys" of various sizes. Turnbuckles are a bit more expensive but still cheaper than some of the alternative sources.

I twisted the sheave to help give you an idea of the small size and groove. According to the BlueJacket catalogue, these two accessories are cast in "Britannia Metal."

This is the size "sheave" I ordered to be used to simulate the pulley system that can be seen through the triangular inspection window (I haven't gotten that far yet).

This is the latest pricing on both the sheaves (grooved pulley wheel), and turnbuckles as well as their different sizes.

What we call the grooved wheel portion "pulleys," they're listed as "sheaves" in the BlueJacket catalog. I've also included turnbuckles, but they're too large for my scale. Still, for anyone working on a larger model, this is truly a cheap alternative. Special note: their turnbuckles are non-functioning.

For those who might be interested in obtaining another source of accessories: here are a few postings from Blue Jacket.

The simulated "turnbuckles" can easily be made from small circular and tubular beads that are easily obtainable at almost all arts and crafts stores. It's just pinching the end of the thin half-round plastic strip to fit the beads and then glue t the end points. drilled out at the appropriate locations.

As you can see, these half-found thin plastic strips offer near-airfoil shapes as the real steel cable rigging.

Rigging. Evergreen makes half-round thin strips that will serve as steel rigging on almost all biplanes made after the First World War. They are 14 1/4" in length and different sizes. These were chosen for the S.E. 5.

Thank you DD for clearing that up. I've experienced some of Guillow's decals many times in the past, but had no idea that it was widespread in the manner you described. Hopefully, my order for custom decals through John Brantley will come through. Thank you DD.

Ahh, that explains it. Slightly different scales to accommodate the use of the same wheels and save the costs of manufacturing. Thank you, DD

This, too, is common. Guillows has been trashed here and other sites for many things over the years but nothing has ever changed. Decals many times bear no relation to the box art, at all, but that will never change. Try suggesting it to them. Decals for the Mustang kits are especially wrong. Often the decals colors do not match when being made so you might see white where it shouldn't be. The good thing is that when made correctly Guillows decals are great and they will gladly replace faulty ones. Most of my models have at least one.

The Thomas Morse Scout is 1/13.25th, the SE5A is 1/13.29th, and the Nieuport 11 is 1/12.37th scale. This is common throughout Guillows kits and has been this way forever. But it does allow for common wheels.

Found out the real aircraft wingspan measures 26 feet 7 inches, but the kit's wingspan is 24." What's even a bit more "interesting" is the kit provides decals for the fuselage roundels that are slightly bigger than the scale drawing. I carefully placed the ruler such that you can easily see the difference in dimensions. Had to order custom decals from John Brantley.

Note the brochure says their S.E. 5 model is 1 1/12th scale....

Doesn't that just burn your Butt ???
Skyediamonds1985, Comment for image # 3551702 Feb 16 22:23
Look carefully at the bottom of the drawing under the title box and you'll see the scale reference. The kit is advertised as 1/12th scale as well.
Skyediamonds1985, Image # 3551702 Feb 16 22:22

Guillow's idea of 1/12th scale and the provided drawings being used as reference drawn out as 1/12th scale are two different sizes....Hmmm

Nice!

I'm holding off installing throttle controls located in the slots on the left side of the cockpit stiffner near the "clock" because those things are right along the edge of the fuselage side. The way I'm handling the fuselage, I will probably break them off long before the final sheeting.
