Ahaaah!! The valves are normally in black, gray or painted yellow to match the color of the wing. Never saw them painted red. Great!! Thank you for showing me that. That's one heck of a great picture. Really shows off the plane in motion!! Sure wish I had that photo when building the -17. Thank you, Sir. I'll be posting a few pictures from my old A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) manual on turnbuckles and rib stitching for those who might be interested; on my S.E. 5 build. |

I wish I could say that those ridge lines were planned but they were an unexpected detail that actually wasn't even noticeable until the paint was applied. They were the result of the strips being cut with an x-acto knife. |

Thanks for that tip Don. Has anyone tried vinyl lacing for the flat rigging? I'm going to look at some at Michaels and see if it's a possibility. If ya'll don't hear from me soon you'll know my family did an intervention and put me in detail rehab. : ) |

Here's a valve assembly similar to the one on the N2S I'm trying to replicate. |

Solder scores easier for the hinge. Nice job on the gauges. |

Nice work. That T handle was a pain. "Plastruct" makes a small flat styrene strip in various sizes that works for the flat rigging. |

My replication goal |

These are located under the upper wing on either side of the cockpit. I'll post a picture I used as a reference. |

The pictures I took of the N2S at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, NC, had to be taken from behind the barriers so some details like the actual gauges I used are based on a pic I found online with the same arrangement of the gauges (on a black panel) in a similar N2S. You realize of course that my original plans for the rigging have now gone out the window. Ya'll are a bad influence! |

The "model" is my wife of 42 years, thank you very much. |

All of your models look outstanding! Oh, the planes look good too.... :0) |

By the way, those scissor shocks are a lot prettier than mine. I used glossy paper. Pretty much did the same thing of gluing identical "A" frames together to give each scissor some "depth, then using a tiny piece of tubing from a local bead store to serve as a hinge where the two assemblies joined together, then splitting them at the joint of the landing gear. I think I said that right..... |

Loved the panels. I can see you've done your homework. I can see the red line of the RPM gauge pegged at 2100. Great job!! For some reason, only the -17 had the RPM gauge running counter-clockwise. My guess is you're replicating these panels of the biplane near you? I'm only asking because the original biplanes had flat black panels. Modern panels were updated white. A special "thanks" for showing a close up of the flat cable rigging on the Waco. I actually contemplated on splitting the cable rods used to keep them from "singing" in the wind, but at 1/12th scale, I was splitting hairs. Decided to just lay them down at the intersection where the rigging between the flying and landing wires crossed over. But don't tell anyone! |

Never saw these types of fuel valves on a PT-17. Are they inside the cockpits? Beautiful job. Plastic? |

Excellent job, "Mr." biplane. I think the small ridge lines on the edges of the scissors for the shock structs is whats got everyone's attention. You certainly got mine!! Incredible attention to detail. Great to know I'm not alone. That post of your biplane ride in the Waco was great! Glad to hear of your sneaky daughter. Loved the instrument panel. My guess is, you decided to replicate the panel of the PT-17 near your airport? Beautifully done. |
