Those of us who are "dog people" know your pain John. After losing my best bud Cocker in 2001 I vowed not to have go through that pain again. Now, I spoil all of the neighbor's pooches with treats in lieu of ownership.

John, as I entered my latest post of my experiment on the S.E. 5 model, just to type every word while reminiscing about your loss was hard. Mr. Bubz will continue to live on in spirit with all of us. Truly very sorry. Sky

John, I am very sad to hear this. I know how hard this is. This brings me back to 2-1/2 years ago when I lost my 13 year old Lab and 16 year old Catahoula just a few months apart. Hang in there, my friend.

John, I'm truly so sorry to hear of your loss. Such a loss with anyone or animal is very difficult. My special condolences to you. As timing would have it, I sent you a letter in slow mail asking you for your email the other day. If you wish: My email is: Skyediamonds1985@yahoo.com -Sky

A very sad day here today. Mr. Bubz, my 12.5 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback, was put to sleep. There is a hole in my heart that will be very hard to fill. His nerves to the legs started to short out changing his once strong legs into noodles. God I loved this dog!

Due to inflation $12 in 1979 is equal to $39.33 today. The cost of bullets is truly painful.

SteveM. A comparison. I paid $31 for a pound of 3031 powder last Friday. Returning to the shop I found an almost empty can fron late 70's. Price on the can $12. Fortunately I have acquired about 500 primed 45-70 cases for free. I had 50, 300 gr hollow point bullets. The fifty I loaded were almost "free"!!! I need more bullets. I have been pricing them. The cost per jacketed bullet, depending upon their weight, appears to be in the one to two dollars, per bullet. The days of me purchasing a hundred at a time are over. I love 500 gr bullets but they are both pricy and scarce.

I've read articles from the 80's complaining about the price of powder, but the high price for metals seems to be a newer issue. It probably says something that I started reloading 2 years ago not to save money but to have something to shoot as the shelves were bare.

Don. I do not load black powder. No need for 90 grains. The smokeless loads I use are near compressed but not quite. When they cut lose their vibrato is a tone to be hold! I have some with 500 gr bullets, very satisfying !

That's where 45-90 comes in.

Of course. Been doing it for years. I have a Ruger # 3 in this caliber. I have used it for 28 plus years. Big boom, love hot loads!

caliber?

Don. Thanks, it holds four in the magazine and one in the chamber. What is nice is that the magazine loads from the front of the tube like many 22 rifles. The old fingers will not have to wrestle the cartridges thru a door in the receiver.
Don C, Comment for image # 3485703 Nov 15 12:50
Good choice. Lotsa cartridges.

Congrats. Nice to see that you like traditional ballistics. I have used a Ruger#3 for 29 years. I have it scoped. Waiting on a Henry H010CC lever gun. It has buckhorn sights they should be OK. Most of my shots are 200 yards or less. Always wanted a repeating 45-70 cannon. My new eyes are 20/20 for distance but the tin knees leave a lot to be desired.
