Lens stopped down to f8. Looks like a nighttime shot.

I probably won't be building for a while, but I wanted to post a few final shots of the Cub.

I put it off until the last, since I haven't carved anything except a turkey for the last 35 years or so. Three pieces of 1/16" basswood. I am surprised it turned out so well. I still need to finish the prop hub, varnish the prop and add the brass edging. But very nearly done. Oh yeah, the black tubes on the landing gear are soda straws covered in masking tape, painted black. These were canvas or leather covers that protected the springs for the l.g.

The brakes are hard to see, but made from snap connectors, like those used to snap canvas flaps together. They were soldered to a washer and brass tube, and then cut down with a Dremel, removing about half the snap so it looks like a brake (or at least sorta looks like a brake). Wheels are glued in place.

The one on the left is the original, and the one on the right shows the cover. The aluminum is just shaped over the wheel, and slowly cut so it wraps under the original wheel. It is not glued, just pressed in place. Once there, the aluminum is lightly scuffed with sandpaper to better accept paint.

Still need to finish the prop. But man, what fun it was to carve.

Another cockpit shot. The Cub is showing its fangs.

Bazookas in place. Nut attachments are resin, from a Verlinden detail set.

Tailwheel and control wires in place. Gotta build that Skyray soon.

Wheels in place, along with my attempt at brake drums.

Wheel covers made from aluminum sheet.
