I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

These LiFe batteries charge quickly. From start to 20 seconds the current slowly ramps to 4 amps where it stays till around 5.5 minutes. At this point 90% of the 700 mAh charge has been added then the charger slowly finishes in "balancing" mode.

Poppy - I learned that not only should I stay 2-3 mistakes from the ground, but also from the trees. I also learned that flying faster made it easier to control, especially in the wind.

Barnstormer - Yes, I will rebuild! When you get bucked off you just have to dust yourself off and get back on. Notice the right wingtip is unpainted and my nemesis, the oak tree, is in the background.

I ran out of time to post this last night. The wingtip and all wood forward of the spar are all new.

They're not perfectly straight, but good enough.

Ahh, we learns by trial and error.

What a shame Steve. It breaks my heart. You had put so much work in it. Stay out of trees!:-)

Thats too bad Steve, It sure is a beautiful plane though. Will you rebuild?

On impact the ESC plug came out of the radio, but the ESC and watt meter still had power. These pins took a beating from plugs yanking out, but they can be straightened.

I didn't think the guy would be able to get to my plane, but he took one look at the tree and said "no problem". He climed as high as he could then used a long pole to slip a noose around the nose of the fuse then lowered it down to me.

Good point James, I did a darn good job in hitting this small target. Pre-tree I got in about three 20 minute flights and the Tyro handled very nicely. There was a gentle NNW breeze so I got good experience flying upwind, downwind, and crosswind. I would say I got in more flying time this morning than all previous flights combined. Now I just wish the tree climbing guy would call me back and let me know if/when he can return her to me. I almost forgot - the icing on the cake. I got home and got on the bike, only to find the speedometer was not working. Fortunately my butt is well calibrated and knows how fast I am going ±5 MPH.

Oh dear! How big is the sky that you were flying in? How small is that tree in comparison? :) How was the flight before the 'twiggy encounter'? Sounds like you got some good stick time in this time around...

Steve, airplanes and trees are nice to see, just not together. there should be at least 10 feet of separation. Ouch!!

While I hate seeing this as the end result, I do love the photos of the planes flying in the air. It's where they are supposed to be. Good luck.
SteveM, Image # 827909 May 08 15:10

Ah yes, right near the top. As one RC pilot of 38+ years told me - next time crash lower in the tree.

Shortly after I realized my plane was not coming down the 9am retiree gas crowd showed up, some pilots having flown longer than I have been alive. So you can imagine me having to point out my plane to a group of several of them. Turns out there is a guy that will retrieve planes from trees for $50. I hope he can get mine down before the wind blows it down onto the road below. Any one of a number of electronic components in the plane are worth $50, I even have my watt-meter up there.
SteveM, Image # 827809 May 08 15:02

Oh yah, you all know what this pictures means. Obviusly pilot error was involved, but in my defense there was an issue with the wind blowing my off track then I couldn't seem to get power or lift enough to avoid the oak tree.

Flights on the new batteries were 20-23 minutes with 900-1000 mAh drawn from the battery. Recharges took 20 minutes with 90% of the recharge done in the first 13 minutes. This was about as high as I care to go for now.

Out at the field again, 2 hours before gassers are allowed to fly. Warmer than before and a gentle breeze that will eventually shift 180 from what the wind sock is showing now.

Well then, thank you Poppy and DD!
